After a 2 year hiatus, I decided to get back into running last last Sunday (May 15). Here was my first week:
Sunday: 15 min of running (jogging)
Monday: 1.5 mile time trial (ran a pathetic 11:49)
Tuesday: jogged 1.5 miles
Wednesday: did not run
Thursday: ran a 2 mile time trial for the hell of it (ran a 14:35. I was pretty pleased since my pace for 1.5 miles was 10:56)
Friday: did not run, did leg lifting
Saturday: ran 10 minutes pretty hard
Sunday: No run
Monday: No run
Tuesday: No run
Today: ran a 2 mile time trial in 13:58 (20 mph wind)
Each day I ran I lifted heavy weights prior to running.
A little bit of background: Pr's in high school (2 years ago) were: 800-2:03, 1600-4:50, 3200-10:36
stopped running after high school and started lifting weights. Gained about 20 lbs of muscle and went from 120 to 140lbs.
Question is: Should I get back into running seriously? I miss running, but don't want to lose my muscle. My first priority is to weight 150-155 lbs and have 5-6 percent body fat. I don't know how running will affect this long term goal. Also, how much could I progress according to my current "training"? I seem to be increasing my 2 mile time at a seriously fast pace.
