This freshman is from Bakersfield. He ran 4:12 to win the boys 1600m at the central section meet to send him to state. Before this race, his fastest was a 4:19 I believe.

thanks blake
does taye still hold the freshmen record? 409?
So what? I ran a 4:12 1500 my freshman year at a d3 school. Come back and post when this kid does something significant.
I hope that he does new balance outdoors so he could possibly break the freshman record. I think he could qualify for the seeded race with that time. If he can break the record at a state meet, then that is great, but new balance would give him an extra few weeks to get his time down.
Nah, he ran 4:16.54 at West Coast Relays. I was at both meets. I was rooting for the older guys who seemed to control the race for 1400m but this kid just changes gears and he's gone.
4:12 + 2:00 = No wheels
Stockdale HS (the school Haney attends) also has another sub-4:20 1600m runner who will also be returning next year. I figure with another runner close to the same caliber, the two will be able to push each other in workouts, so barring injuries, Haney could show up to be something special in his last 3 years of high school. Then again, he could be topping out now, and this could just be a short bangwagon ride to nowheresville.
In other prep news, Justin Villhauer (of Redwood HS, Visalia CA) didn't even run at the central section meet. He made the world junior xc champs and finished somewhere in the top 50. I hope he finds some consistency in his future.
And Bill Nelson continues to impress at the pro level.
Whow would've thought that runners who hail from the regions with the worst air quality in the USA would turn out to be such great runners? Cabada also had some recent success.
touched me touching him: Sir you are an idiot.... The 1500 and 1600 are 2 completely different races. The difference in times is about 17 seconds....therefore you ran a technical 4:29 1600.... Sorry to report to you sir, but you aren't anything special... Now the kid who has run the state freshmen record for the 1600 is something special, so pull your head out and get over yourself....
I believe he was just making a joke.

I think he was being facetious.
Is Haney racing this weekend, or next?
Kid is legit. Just dropped 8:54 @ Arcadia. Only a soph. Two more years to hone his craft and go after German's CA records.
