This kid must be mentally slow or something if he can't keep his shoes on for a mile. They have thing called laces, and you can make them tight.

Oh please. The wind was NOT the reason for the slow time. The A&M and Arkansas guys were running 1:46-1:47 on their 800s in the 4x800 and Sprint Medley. You cannot honestly believe the WIND was the reason for the slow time. No one wanted to lead. And German just didn't have anything. He needs to get out of his mental block and quit being a little nancy boy. He could have won that in 4:10 off the exact same race if this was a year and a half ago

You don't need the heel of your spike when your running under 60 second pace, that's up on your toes and go. He lost 3 seconds in the last 75m...that's just being a pssy...the shoe talk is one BIG EXCUSE for sucking cock
dude f*** off you have no idea what youre talking about
To the people saying this race was embarrasing: Why was it embarrasing? Because they ran slower than they were capable of?
Well guess what? This was one of the most competitive races I've seen all year. Everyone in the field had a chance of winning! That's what makes it a fun race to watch.

Well, since I do know what I'm talking about, I guess YOU don't know what you're talking about. How about that logic, haha.
I want to preface this question by saying, I am actually wondering this:
Should German even bother going Pro in a few years?
AND
Why do people defend German on here like he is their son?
- dude has been running inexcusably bad, his fans are pissed, thats that. If Kobe was only shooting 20% and scoring 12 points per game, people would be pissed.

Kobe is also a 30 year old man who gets paid millions of dollars to play basketball. Many of those fans have invested time and money into making Kobe Bryant rich.
German on the other hand is a 20 year old college student who at most is getting a free education out of the deal. Most of the fans on here that are "pissed" probably would not get away from their computers long enough to even watch a track meet.
So your analogy fails because we can conclude that as a highly paid professional athlete, Kobe Bryant owes his fans somethings. On the other hand German Fernandez, as a 20 year old collegian, does not owe his fans anything really in terms of performance. To get angry with him for running poorly is really quite irrational.
Well good sir, if you are talking about fans "paying" Kobe I guess you mean with ticket sales? I do believe they sell tickets to all the fancy track meets German runs at. Further, OSU Alumni donate money, I don't see fans of the Lakers "donating" money (but i suppose they could). Bottom line the analogy is NOT as far off as you claim, and it doesnt "fail". It is not perfect, because really no analogy is, BUT it gets the point across. Which is "h8ers gonna h8", and peoplez shouldn't be shocked by it. I do find it curious, Curious Chris, that fans feel something is owed to them. but thats life i guess.
BUT I am interested in what you think of my first questions.
Ummm ...
Since when do people have to be running legendary times in early April? The guy was testing his fitness in a race that went out at his 5000m pace. His shoes almost fell off when he was supposed to kick and still busted a 58 second closing lap.
I think people should spend less time criticizing the elite and more time looking at themselves. I doubt many of the people on this thread could even break 4:20 in the mile in a full out effort.
Get your head out of your ass.
Actually, if he went through in 2:15, it's considerably slower than his 5000m pace.

why would you actually wonder that?
German ran a national caliber times when he was an undertrained 18 year old (maybe 19 not positive)...yes hes had injury problems and some bad luck for a couple years but 13:25, 3:55, 7:47 talent doesnt disappear...dude will get a contract
no one has ever defended German like he is their son...merely injected some rational analysis into the rantings of you idiots who get a hardon everytime a college kid has a rough day
I'm wondering how many of you guys actually watched the race -- he really didn't look too bad. Made some moves, and actually looked like he had it in the bag with about 300 to go. It's not super-encouraging, but it doesn't show he's "done", just that he doesn't have enough speed to run away from that field at the moment (and I doubt he ever will).
however, even more idiotic that the incessant german bashers are the dumbasses who think a race like this was "embarassing"...goal is to get to the line first folks end of story, if you dont understand that then you should probably find a new sport
races like this happen on the world level too so probably a good idea for our guys to get some experience with it...
I did see the race, and I was thoroughly disappointed in the winning time. The HS 1600m time from a couple of hours earlier, in essentially the exact same conditions, was 4:15. There was no need to run this like a championship race. It essentially was an all-out 400m for everyone involved. Plus, at 16 or so competitors, there were too many people in the race, especially to run the opening laps so slow. Someone should have taken this out in a decent time.
I consider this a bad race for everyone involved. Who cares about winning a race in early April? You should be racing to have the greatest amount of positive effect later on in this season. No one raised their training/racing levels with this performance.
I'm glad I didn't pay to get into the meet to watch this crap.

I never understand why people spew this crap...
does seeing a number on the clock excite you?
would you rather see a strung out record attempt with people running single file the whole time? what is exciting about that? there wasn't going to be any records set that day so what difference does the finishing time make?
I guess times shouldn't matter, just get to the line first, I understand. Oh but wait my friend, what shall we do with the Regional Qualification system, AND oh wait again, the National Qualification system.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
I supposes with your logic, the actual "distance" they are running doesnt matter either, SO , we could have tracks that are say, i dunno 30 meters short per lap. No probs Bobs.
OR
We could have every one start and finish at crazy points all over the track
OR
Better yet we could just say screw the track lets run all over the college campus..... wait now that sounds familiar...... OH yeah that's cross country, THATS the sport you are thinking of where time doesn't matter. WRONG THREAD n00b. TIME MATTERS!
So, have we reached a consensus that this kid is DONE?

huh? ease off the ritalin, stay in the sport for a few years...start to learn something about it, then come on the boards and youre allowed to use the word noob...
time matters in record or PR attempts, if neither of those things are going to happen...It doesnt matter if you are 5 seconds or 20 seconds off your personal best...just the place you finished in
what we could be worried about however, if why so many of our runners felt it was a reaosnable strategy to let a race that included a 1:43 guy go out in 2:15

You don't want to get into a dick measuring contest with me, boy. Don't forget who your superiors are.
