with the exception of andy weaver, corey wall and a few throwers, the entire team is a joke. the rest of the team cant even qualify for ic4as. to expect to still be around by relying on roster cuts is unfair to teams such as football. ud football was number two in its entire division, this year. so a 103 man roster is justifiable, even with 50 bench warmers. so to risk losing a ton of funding by not following title nine guidelines it makes sense to let go of the running program. i actually think that the football team can put together a faster 4 x 1 than the track team; after watching a kid on the team squash the sprinters last year during a time trail
the mens ud track program is a 300k a year sinkhole while the soccer team have a lot of support. the number of supporters at ud track meets: pathetic. the only way i can imagine ud track generating nearly enough money to stay afloat is by building a banked track(ud is already building a multi mil technology park, may as well drop a few mil on a banked track) and holding meets all the time. OR if fischer decides to stop receving an income.
the only benefit that the ud varsity track team provides for student athletes is the chance to compete at ncaas. it will be a cold day in hell when that happens. to what i understand the club team will basically have all the same opportunities as the "old varsity" team. they can practice in the field house/ outside track when the girls are, ride on the same busses to meets and use the same coaches. weight room and athletic training room will be asseable to runners as well, or at least that is what that big lipped chicken eating mother f***er said at the meeting.
also sandy brought up how poorly soccer has done in the caa conference. he failed to mention that the soccer team doesnt even hae a coach. a 4th place finish this year is not too shabby considering that fact
upset that the xc and track teams are cut. but i think i can finally understand why.
