Nuts, absolutely nuts how a high schooler who is unproven at the mile could get in a field like this. When Webb got in at pre after his senior year of HS he had already shown he could go sub 4. This is a completely different scenario, Lukas has only run 4:04 for the mile and is not in top mile condition (not enough time to get serious speed since the end of XC)and should not have been able to get into this race. This is a gimmick, one that I will definitely be watching but a gimmick none the less.

Lukas is currently the fastest high school miler. While this race is a bit of a stretch, Pre has invited several top high school milers who have been in the 4:01-4:04 range. It's not like 3:59i Webb was the only one ever invited. Heck, they wanted Webb as a junior when he was only a 4:02 (converted from 1600 split). Sage got in when his best was about 4:07.
It's not unprecedented to get a kid like Lukas into a race like this. The question is what's the point. They do it at Pre to give the kid a chance at breaking 4. They put Ritz and some fast kids in big 5ks to challenge Lindgren's record. But I don't see a record likely happening in this race.
Good thing you negative Nelly know-it-alls aren't the ones who determine our dreams and goals. Are your lives reallythis negative? Think about that.
Thoughts ? They're idiots for putting this struggling meet on right as the SuperBowl is about to kick off..I mean, its not that the Pats will be in it, but couldn't they have done this on saturday the 5th maybe ?

Organizers announced today that Olympic Silver Medalist Nick Willis from New Zealand and American Recorder-Holder Alan Webb will match-up in the mile at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday, February 5th.
