Verzbicas is in the same race the way that a sub-elite is in the same marathon as Hall.

Hall is a poor excample ?

I agree, but all the same, it's cool. I'd imagine he's just looking to get pulled to a fast time. It'll be good to get pulled along by some truly fast guys. I suspect he's looking for sub 4.
Webb was in the same race as El G once when he was in high school.
It worked out pretty well for him.
4:02.1
So if he breaks any records, do they count?
Didn't Lukas break 4 this summer in a road race?
well it was a downhill mile
Verzbicas may break 4. If so, he more than deserves to be in this race. The race may be won only slightly under 4:00.
slightly under 4??? not with a pacemaker (won't be me). Willis is fitter than planned, won't be surprised to see a repeat of that 3:56 he popped off of no training....should be a great race to watch!

1. I think Willis had done at least some training prior to the 3:56.
2. 3:56 is not that far under 4:00. Four seconds at that pace is about 26 meters ~ half a straightaway. I don't know who else will be in the race but I would guess that Lukas will not be falling of the back.
3. New Balance and the meet organizers have got us all on here talking about the race in large part because of the Verzbikas storyline, so that in itself is a good reason to put him in the race.
Does Lukas have a chance to win? No way. Willis could run in the low 3:50's and Lukas would be lucky to be within 10 seconds of him in that scenario. But he won't get lapped so there's no drawback to him being on the track, and he might run an indoor sub-4 as a high schooler. Plus it will be a great experience for one of our young stars, and as I mentioned in #3 it is obviously succeeding in generating publicity for the race and for the meet (and for New Balance).
i'll jump on the bandwagon and say luke runs 3:59...
I'll say "no way" he dips under 4-minutes. Though I'd love to see it happen...it's too early in the season. Gotta think he had some well deserved time off after winning both NXN and Footlocker...so there is no way he's primed to go sub-4 (especially indoors).
I say he goes 4:06.21...but he should have a real shot at breaking 4:00 come outdoors
Old balance is imbalanced.
All this speculation about how Lukas will likely do this or likely do that, 3:56 is not that far under 4:00, and more useless drivel.
I'm all for speculation, but it should be a given that we know next to nothing about Lukas' training, or Willis' training, for that matter. Therefore, we really have no idea what to expect from either athlete.
Calculating how much of a straightaway 4 seconds corresponds to is a lot of nonsense.
I hope Lukas doesn't break 4 cuz I want to be the next sub 4 miler, if he does I'll have to break 3:50!
Or more like Hall being in a race like the London Marathon

Speculation about how fast he will run gives rewards (fun) at no cost. Therefore it is not useless drivel.
If you keep up with things (I know not everybody does and hey that's fine) you have a general idea of how each person's training is going.
Calculating how much of a straightaway 4 seconds is is basically an exact science and therefore it can't really be nonsense.

Why is hall a poor example? He's elite, no?
