For Carmargo-Nero, 39, the victory meant a $300 payday and a return to health. An Olympic marathoner at the 2008 Beijing Summer Games, Carmargo-Nero suffered through a serious battle with lyme disease for the past two years. (Argentina)

Seriously. WTF with the times? I unofficially got the first girl around 4:28 because I missed the first male.
Reading the article confuses me more because it says Gagnon made up to $575 with winning marks and a sub-4 and the womens winner makes much less?
Bad race directing or bad reporting.
Carmago
Oops. Camargo. Actually now Camargo-Nero.

Perhaps the following will clear things up:
Dash for Cash:
¼ mile bonus = $50 to first person to the ¼ mile mark.
½ mile bonus = $75 to first person to the ½ mile mark.
¾ mile bonus = $100 to first person to the ¾ mile mark.
Sub 4:00 Bonus
$100 bonus for anyone who breaks the magical 4-minute barrier
http://millenniummile.org/awards.aspxBoth winners got $300; Gagnon earned several of the bonuses. Should there be separate bonus awards for men and women besides course record bonuses? Perhaps ... you could write to the race director.
Funny. I just emailed her and she says she only got $150!!?? It was news to her that Gagnon got so much more.

Interesting ... I was just quoting the Union Leader article above in stating both got $300 for the win. The MM website doesn't actually state the dollar amounts for winning.
Might be interesting to start a new thread about how many races offer different cash prizes to men vs. women nowadays.
back in my day people got 0 dollars for winning,
along with walking 10 miles to school through snow uphill both ways
Yeah, but your only competition came from Methuselah.

The course gives about 18 seconds if you compare recent indoor mile results for the leaders. Just sayin

In my expierence, it is much closer to 6-8 seconds. Seems spot on when looking at all of the top runners, year in and year out.
But whatever makes you feel better about yourself. Saying other people are slower is sure easier than making yourself faster. . . Just saying.
No way. Fyffe is worth nothing faster than 4:10. He worked hard for a 4:15 the other week.
Bet he is good for a 4:06 this year.
Gagnon's a 1:46 800. Wtf are you talking about?
Only on letsrun is a 1:46 800 time "not so fast." Let me guess: you do your 6x800 workouts in 1:46 with 2 minutes rest between sets.

Tell that to Kevin Sullivan. I think he was slightly faster than the 4:10 miler your math predicts.

Who said that?
Here is video of a bit of the race:
you do realize the course features an all downhill drop of 80+ ft, don't you ?

Meaning it is wicked fast, or not as fast as people thought?
Mort won it one year in 4 flat. Two weeks later ran 4:01 at BIG. . .
WHY ARE YOU ALL TALKING ABOUT THE TIMES THEMSELVES?!
SHES A MAN, MAN!
ps. nice time gagnon
