Asics DS SkySpeed v. Asics Speedstar 5...which do you prefer?
bumpp
Bump again. I've ran a couple of half marathons in the Speedstar4. 5'-11", 165lbs, neutral. 1:37 time.
Should the 5's be good for a Marathon?
Well, the fit is different. The Speedstar is narrower and more shallow in the toebox. The SkySpeed is roomier in the toebox. The SkySpeed is a little more cushioned.
I would say if you liked the Speedstar for your half marathons, then you will like them for the full. The difference between the 4 and the 5 is the upper. The midsole is identical.
Do you use them for training and racing? Or just racing? You should feel comfortable putting good mileage and long runs in whichever shoe you plan to wear for the marathon.
I like both, but I prefer the skyspeed. It seems lower profile and lower drop to me and the ride seems more responsive/firm.
What are you running in now? I haven't tried the SkySpeed, but from what I understand, it's basically a DS Trainer without the posting. I have tried the Speedstar 5, and it's very narrow. Actually, to me, it felt narrower than anything else I've put on recently. And of course, the uppers are quite different.
