I found out the other night that back in high school one of my classmates scored higher on the SAT than his 5k time meaning that he scored high 1500s on his SAT and ran mid 15s for the 5k. This was before the SAT scoring changed when the best you could score on the test was a 1600. I was slightly faster, but he beat me by about 150 on the SAT. I wonder how many other people accomplished this feat. Talk about having a sound mind and a sound body.
I must not have a sound mind in a sound body. Even if I got a perfect SAT score on the version I would still be slower. Maybe I need SAT-EPO.
That is great. Damn. I have never thought about that, but what a stellar High School goal to have. I guess now it is easy, but when the perfect was 1600, that would have been something cool to shoot for...
I was 15:23 and 1420. I made mostly A's though, so I still went to a good school.

What if you scored 1560? There isn't a 5K time that is 15:60. Would you make that 16:00? Just curious.

1560 is lower than 1600, so no.
They are two different things, there are no adjustments.
So if you scored 1560 and ran 15:59, you attained the goal. If you scored 15:60 and ran 16:00, you failed.
1540, 15:09, before the scoring change.
I just realized mine are really close: 1440 on the SAT and 14:45 for the 5k. Weird...
This is potentially pretty tough to do! I scored 1490, but there is no way I will ever go sub-15. :(

Oh wait, I thought it had to be your High School PR. I still didn't get it, but I ran 14:40 in college.
Guess I need to get faster AND smarter. . . I got scored 1300 using the old method of scoring. If I had remembered a damn calculator I would have done much better on the math section.

What if you scored 1560? There isn't a 5K time that is 15:60. Would you make that 16:00? Just curious.
To accurately compare the SAT score and 5k time, I would hold the first two digits (1,5) of the SAT score constant while collectively adjusting the last two digits (6,0) from a 100 point to a 60 point scale.
An SAT score of 1560 would become 15:36.

You don't need mostly A's to get into a good school with a 1420. That's a mighty fine score.
I'm 15:42 and 1460, so I fail.

However, I just recently re-took the SAT as part of the application to become an SAT tutor and scored a 1470 (14:42 5K) a few days before running 14:38. Granted that was on a track, though, which gives me an unfair advantage over the high schoolers.
In my opinion scoring higher on the "old school" SAT than you HS 5k is an amazing achievement and a mark of someone that is truly multi-talented (athletics and academics). I think I was pretty good at both, but failed to achieve this running 15:21 and scoring a 1440. Just to be in the Al Bundy mode though, I COULD HAVE DONE IT! I took the SAT in 11th grade, then took the ACT in 12th grade, scoring a perfect 36 (converts to 1600 SAT), if I had retaken the SAT I know I could have gotten at least 1540.
I scored 1520 which at the time was way faster than my 5k, but now I run faster!
Maybe SAT scoring has changed. Why would this not hold?
1560 mod 100 = 60 (find seconds)
60 / 100 = 0.6 (get percentage)
60 * 0.6 = 36 (convert to seconds)
15:00 + 0:36 = 15:36 (add back to minutes)
∴ 1560 = 15:36
Using the new SAT (out of 2400) I achieved this...does that count?
