not if it doesn't go faster than 5:00 pace
is the streak over?
haha whats up with the picture?
ian, i would tap that family member of yours till the oil leaks.
Joe Mac?
RIP Joe Mac
Yikes! I at least hope it's only RIP sub-5 streak.
The streak is probably over but the dream lives on. I guess no snow plows in Joe Mac's neighborhood? I doubt he would count a sub 5 mile on a treadmill as legit, assuming he has a treadmill nearby.

I am not sure why he wouldn't count a treadmill as legit? Just as legit as doing all these miles on the roads with a GPS instead of being 100% accurate on a track. Is there not an indoor track somewhere around, even a small YMCA type of track? If the streak ends because he wasn't willing to do it on a treadmill or an indoor track, then he probably wanted to have a reason for it to end and the blizzard made for as good of reason as any to stop. There are always ways around weather obstacles if you really want something. Either way, I am still impressed with what he did. I am not sure how many days I could have made it when I was young and fit. Well done.
I agree. A treadmill mile would count. I'd even count it if he had to run a downhill mile one day because he felt so bad.

RIP Joe Mac
Methinks that "drinking enough to kill a small elephant" may have played a role in this.
The streak coming to end an is a disappointment. An expected one, but a disappointment nonetheless.
The lack of an explanation and some straightforwardness is starting to tick me off. I hope we aren't all about to want to nominate joemac for troll of the year.
No update on his blog since the 26th. It was a great run, if it is over.
Time to imbibe. Happy New Year you boobs
Sorry to all, internet has been inconsistent and sparse. The funny thing is on the last day was actually sober, just too much ice and snow.
The point was not to run 100 sub five minute miles on a treadmill. Day to day in the last month I think I proved that possible. Drunk, rain, wind 18 milers, I could manage, but on icy footing I just couldn't.

What is wrong with a treadmill? You are not doing this on a track anyway, so there is no consistency from mile to mile. Are there no indoor tracks around? It looks like you just wanted it to end, which is okay. You made it longer than I ever would have.
The point is not to do a sub five minute mile...The point is to endure not only the track (Which I did a few on), the elements (Wind, Cold, Rain, Snow...), the road (Hills, Turns, Footing...), mileage (16-18 miles per day), among many other irritants and deterrents.
A treadmill creates a perfect, sterile environment that certainly does not represent reality. I wanted this to be real...Insert hills, weather, regular training, regular nightlife of staying up late drinking 10-25 beers (not a typo, there are plenty of people that can attest to me putting down 20 pints and running hard the next day). In short, I wanted a challenge.
I know I can run 100, shit I could probably run sub five minute miles on a treadmill until I am 40 on a treadmill if I was only running a warm up, one mile, and a cool down each day under perfect conditions. The plan, the challenge, wasn't to have this be under perfect conditions. The true bar challenge was to stick to regular training (100-120 miles per week) and endure the elements and the constraints that are provided by living the North East.
Wow! A challenge is a challenge and if you can't out run a dreadmill then you haven't reached your potential. I am disappointed .
