People smoke to fit in with other people - hardly the Clint Eastwood, or whatever is cool now, image they like to project
Drinking is not going to really help your running, but how many people have a drink first thing every morning and go for a regular top up all day - only alkies

I ran many a mile with this guy and he told me his ambition was to run a hundred yards when he was aged 100. Well he smoked and didn't make 60. This is not to knock him nobody is perfect - but don't use a smoker as running role model
Of course its a role of the dice - he might have been more lucky. But why role the dice smoking makes less sense than taking heroin. It-s a drug with a high less than a cup of tea which can put you in a box early. Its not macho or cool, its just stupid
