Don't know where all the Todd Morgan hate came from on the last page. Silly.

Inexplicable collapse of this Florida Stater over the last few months. 67 seconds slower, or more than 11 seconds per km.

Don't forget about Harvey:

2005 at Illinois - 5th
Not many other coaches in the ncaa that can match this.
Top 10 finish for Syracuse women, a program best. Chris Fox has turned the programs there around nicely as they've improved even more on both the men's and women's side each year he's been there.

I saw Chenowith of Harvard at the last turn heading into the straightaway. Something definitely was not right with him as he was giving all he had to just lift one leg in front of the other. I think its a bit of a shame that on the LRC recap of the race they blasted him as the "biggest implosion of the afternoon" (even pointing out his last 2K was at 7:21 mile pace). They obviously did not see him the last 400 meters. I think if anything Chenowith deserves some admiration to have what it takes to make it to the finish. Sometimes it takes more heart just to finish than to win a race and I think Chenowith showed a lot of heart at the end. I take my hat off to him.
I hope they can find out what happened so they can learn from this and allow him to have a good indoor and outdoor season. Last year wasn't the greatest year for him. Hopefully he can graduate on a high note!
How about to Indiana State for putting on an amazing weekend. Sad to see the championships move, they have done a great job.

Pretty massive improvements by these ladies. With her team's top 10 and podium consistency, Karen Harvey has to be one of the best coaches in the NCAA.
Props to:
Dave Smith
OSU's 4th and 5th
Puskedra
Chelenga
They will be back there next year. Oregon couldn't get it together in time (red-tape problems).

I give Derrick a lot of credit for a great season and strong race Monday, but the reasons you give are pure speculation, and not at all credible. You say that he might have won and would surely have fared no worse than second (in other words, he would have run at least 20 seconds faster) if he had not worked so hard to help his (favored) team to its 4th-place finish.
The truth is that he is right where he has always been, in the mix with Puskedra and Fernandez, with the most consistently healthy of the three usually beating the other two at any given point in time. To most observers, I would guess that Derrick's race was slightly less impressive Monday than either of the other two, considering the distance and the circumstances.
Um, no! Obviously you weren't at the meet. "Sticking" with the team/pack was the "smart" move in this race. Getting out in front was straight up ballsy and killed some runners. Those who hung on (Sambu, Puskedra and Korir) deserve major props for racing that way under those conditions...they did it the hard way. Derrick ran a great race and I'm sure he would say he ran as hard as he could that given day. Without any other evidence, you can't say "this would have happened or that would have happened" because IT DIDN'T!
I'll second this, first class meet put on by first class people all the way, hopefully it'll be rewarded to ISU again in 2011. If not, us ISU people will see you all in 2013 again.

Congrats to Emily Infeld for her second place finish. We have had some great female runners come out of Ohio in the last few years.

I'm not buying into Lannana's comment of some type of either/or trade-off between track and distance running. It never seemed to be an issue for him at Stanford or at Oregon until 2010. Why? Because success breeds success. True his two schools only have a fixed number of scholarships to give out between XC-indoor-outdoor but give me a break. Its not like Stanford or Oregon have nothing to offer top walk-ons. Those schools are big names, long histories and have first class facilities, trainers, sponsorships, world-class coaching staffs, and money to send any kid to any meet in the USA. They're still going to get top talent across running-sprinting-and field events because of their proven record of developing champions. Back in the day, Arkansas didn't toss all its scholarships at distance running and they kicked ass in the long stuff (and everything else) because guys flocked to John McDonnell and wanted to be champions. I highly doubt that Vin would trade positions with Portland, OkState, or Iona. If you were a top distance recruit would you go to Portland on a scholarship or go to Oregon as a walk-on? If you have to think about it then the outcome is clear. Oregon is going to get 1 or 2 of the top 5 distance runners in the country every year on scholarship and also a lot of guys who are waffling between money at a tier-two school or being a part of the championship machine.
Props to Stoneybrook top team finisher from northeast region
Props to Providence women finishing top ten and also topping Northeast regional winner Syracuse.
Props to Shelby Greany 89th last year and then 12th this year with a longer track season into late July.
Props to Emily Sisson top frosh and also longer track season into late July
pretty sure 90% of people on this site (creators included) assumed jordan hasay would be a 5th runner barely cracking 21:00 for 6k....fail
Colby Lowe ran especially tough and survived getting knocked down in the last 1K by unnamed west coast runner. He still had grass on his shorts at the finish. O State's five and six were phenomenal and their #7 ran the last 9K with one shoe.
Oklahoma's Kevin Schwab ran an equally tough race and had to run fast in the last 2K after falling off the pace from running at the head of the chase pack for the entire race.
Dave Smith for repeating and Martin Smith for putting Oklahoma on the map and arguably making the Big 12 the toughest cross country conference. We will miss you Colorado.
