Iona is going downhill fast with these new coaches. Unless they get 4 more east Africans, they will not be on the podium any time soon.

Northern Virginia? Is he going to train with Scott Razcko's group?

Is Razcko coaching a non-existent community college team now? And is that a step up or down from high school teams?

Done deal
Iona would not release him to Wisco or any SUNY school
Did release him to Michigan
So not releasing him to Wisco makes sense, that's part of the game. But releasing him specifically into Mick Burne's backyard with Gibby and what could have been a challenge worthy Michigan squad down the road is messed up. Mick takes a program, builds it for 2 decades, Santos makes it so bad that the kid wants to leave, and the guy who tossed him the job (which at that point had to be more like a child than just a career) suffers because the kid needs a change. Great way to repay your former mentor Ricardo.
this is most likely a great example of ricardo's personality and mentality as a coach. makes sense why everyone says that most of his team dislikes him
i talked to ricardo while he was at harvard and he seemed like a nice guy... but i guess i did end up seeing two different people at my eventual school when my coach was coaching versus when he was recruiting
State schools = cheaper
Don't assume that this is all about Track/XC
Shutanut...well said...I agree with you. Byrne puts the guy in the job believing he was the right guy to continue the tradition he built at Iona for 24 years and this is the way he repays him. Most likely, he was never going to Wisco despite telling Iona that he wanted to rejoin his former coach. That is FACT. But, to release him to Michigan is a real slap in the face to your former coach and mentor. Way to go Ricardo. You've shown your true colors. What goes around comes around!
Ryan....you'll be in a better spot soon. Thanks for all the great memories you've giving all the faithful Iona Alums. Go in Peace, and continue to get after it as always.
Jared,
I agree with your statement. We had an awesome balance of International Student Athletes (foreign = old term)and US SA's. I remember saying once in an interview that each and every athlete on his team brought something special to the team. He talked about Richard Kip going to NJ for Thanksgiving and how special that for for both sides. He mentioned in the same article that one a few of his guys were going to Ireland to visit Andrew Ledwith and on to England to visit Peter riley. That's an Iona education and experience. Mick had a way of teaching his guys how to balance a healthy lifestyle and being a regular college student athlete. Not sure what's going on at Iona, but it sounds like there are some "lifestyle" issues and Sheridan dinot want any part of that. Maybe it's time for Ryan to tell his side of the story???
Ryan worked at my camp for two summers. Not sure you could find a nicer, more grounded, young man of character, out there. If he walked away from that program, I would bet it's because of his principles, not because he's a detriment to the program for unscrupulous reasons.
I have no idea of what is going on at Iona just now - but I can speculate.
I would say one thing however - I think if you did a poll of all the guys that were on the team with Ricardo during his 5 years there - I think you could count on one hand the number of people who thought that he was a good guy or good friend.
Not sure how someone like that was ever going to move successfully into coaching.
And before anyone responds about how he is successful just now I think there still doing well on the back of what Mick Byrne did to that program - and the recruiting of the assistant coach.
ricardo is a great coach, and an even better person. he has this ex gael's support 100% keep your head up ric, next week they'll be talking about mark wetmore and how he didnt prepare his team properly for ncaas this year.

Really!
Great coach - why don't we ask his assistants what they think.
Great person - hahahhhahahahahhaahahhahaha
I am an ex gael and I have heard nothing but bad things about the new coaches there. It may just be that Mick set too high of a bar.

Sheridan supposedly quit well before Korir was running great, that was not the reason. What I heard was that it was more b string guys were the ones the kid had problems with anyway.
I met Ryan when he was a Soph at Whitman. He was then and is now a humble, self effacing person. When he was injured his last 2 years of HS, he still supported the other runners on the team. He went through a tough time but still didn' t throw in the towel. In fact he appreciated the ability to even run 1 step more than he ever had.
So I would question anything other than he wanted a better situation than Iona for his reason to transfer.
There was a sex scandal and Sheridan was blamed by the kids on the team involved for the sh!tstorm that followed. He was a captain on the team and must have told the coaches.
