I am somewhat a sugar-holic and go thru phases where I use in moderation, sometimes quit altogether, and sometimes binge. It seems to me like I can notice a definite difference in my running if I've had a lot of sugar that day. If I've had a lot of sugar that day I will tend to feel weak and want to end my workout prematurely. It's not a slam-dunk thing but a subtle thing, so it could be partly just mental.
