If the miner doesn't run well...everyone will forgive him because he was trapped in a mine during his NY buildup.
Jared, on the other hand, is sponsored by Subway. If he doesn't run at least a respectable time (sub 2:19 at least), he'll look really bad and I don't think the average American would want to eat at Subway anymore. Or at least not nearly as often.
Plus, having those mental states ("well, my training's been compromised by my near death and underground captivity" vs. "if I don't run fast I might get dropped from my contract") I think will really come into play in the last 10k.

They will both beat Robin Quivers, whose goal is 5:00+.
Not sure who that is, but another comparison to throw into the mix is Amani Toomer. So predict the Jared/miner/Quivers/Toomer finish order.
The miner was just on the Today show, and predicted 6 hours for himself. I'm thinking Jared will waltz home, sub in hand, slightly before that. Turns out Meredith Viera and Al Roker are running too...
Apparently Taco Bell drive-thru dieter Christine Dougherty is running the NYCM as well:
This post presents an excellent question! It would seem that ANYONE, except possibly Oprah, would be a safe bet to beat Jared, though.
The Chilean miner conjures the image of a sinewy, weathered, tough-as-nails waif of a man at about 130 lbs of wiry grit. Running to bury the memories of his recent ordeal.
Jared, on the other hand, seems like a coddled lummox who gallowalks his way to Starbucks on Saturday mornings for a caramel machiatto. But, as the Kenyans point out, he is capable of anything.
This will be must-watch TV!
Will Universal split screen Jared vs the Miner?
I'm just a bit concerned about the miners build up, apparently he got into a real hole so needed alot of down time. Jared on the otherhand is always fresh as we know, never getting into such a pickle.
For Jared, the first 8k to be paced by El Guerroj, the next by Joe Montana in Sketchers, then, Oprah ,( I know I'm just as excited as you),Jack Lalanne, Bobby Flay, final furlong, Zenyatta !
I'd like to see the miner pop up his head out of the manholes, maybe with a carrot, and say 'what's up doc' just as Subway boy comes by.

How about the miner tunnels and surfaces a few feet from the finish for the win!
so who won?

Happened to me once before Grandma's and I PR'd by 4 minutes.
Anyone see the results? Did Jared go sub-5?
Did the miner dig deep enough to beat him?
Did they finish? Did they both beat Al Roker?
did the miner end up finishing or dropping out? he was walking with ice packs on his knees when they went off the air.
Miner in 5 hours 40 mins
Rescued Chilean MIner Edison Pena finishes ING NYC Marathon in 5 hrs, 40 mins!
It took miner Edison Pena 2:04 to get to the halfway pt of the NYC Marathon. Subway spokesman Jared Fogle? 2:25.
trollololol
Yikes 3:36 for the second half
