Newish (< 1 year) runner here. Ran my first 16 mile (2.5 hr) long run this morning, and I thought everything went well. However, during church, about 2 hours afterward, I became nauseous and dizzy. I remember telling my wife that I wasn't feeling well, and she told me later my speech was slurred. My vision went away (conscious but unable to see anything) but I never actually fell down (had to sit down). I broke out in an incredible sweat and felt better after that. The feeling came on gradually, but the worst of it lasted about 5 minutes.
I first suspected low blood sugar. I didn't eat anything 14 hours prior to the morning run, but it is normal for me to break fast only after my morning run. I ate the same thing I normally do for breakfast, plain oatmeal and a banana. Today I added an extra banana and a big spoonful of peanut butter. However, my episode occurred a couple of hours after breakfast.
I was feeling very thirsty during the church service and wonder if it couldn't be dehydration. I did take in water about every 3 miles during the run and drank water afterward. I wonder if maybe I just didn't get enough.
Any armchair diagnosis? I am doing about 50 mpw, but am just now hitting it after a fairly aggressive ramp-up. Not diabetic (that I know of). 40ish years old, 5'9" 145lbs.
