Andy Pettitte is awesome. It would be so cool if this statement were true. But it is not. AP has a 4.00+ ERA in the WS and a 1.40 WHIP.
Pedro had better numbers than him, especially before last year, when he was clearly over the hill.

I wouldn't get your hopes up to high for dopers and drug cheats like Cliff Lee, Tim Lincecum, Roy Halliday, Derek Jeter, Pujols, etc. Minor and MLB are fake sports.
Which of those have been proven to have used drugs?
If someone is better in the playoffs they must not be trying in the regular season. I think the whole idea of someone being clutch or better in the playoffs is pretty much wrong.

You've never ran better at the end of the season when you were sharp compared to the beginning when you were coming out of base?
Pitching is all skill, and besides even if you were getting more fit the batters would be too.
I am long time Giants fan but even I think Lee is great.
Tough competitor.
The Giants were on a roll when they hit the post season. Their bullpen was stronger and their starters were all "on" so the Giants were able to beat the Rangers.
But that doesn't take away from Lee's pitching credentials.
The Phillies were fortunate to get him. If the Giants make the post season again and face the Philadelphia, it's gonna be tough to repeat.
Lee's last 3 starts have been stellar, but compared to Halladay and Hamels he's still the third starter. I wish Little Roy could pull it together this season.

Pitching isn't all skill. They do strength training to get stronger, but back off towards the end of the season to freshen up for the post season. The batters are training to get better too, but some people time their training better than others, thus why people say Cliff is such a great post season pitcher.
Third postseason game in a row, Cliff Lee gets knocked around.
That's his one game for this series.
The Phillies have to get to the NLCS for him to pitch again this year.
Hopefully they do and hopefully he gets his groove back.
Hate to say it but he is now officially not one of the greatest postseason pitchers ever.
After what Halladay has done the last couple of years he isn't even the best post-season pitcher on his team.
Last year (and the year before), Lee helped lead his team to the World Series.
Halladay took a loss in Game 1 of the NLCS which helped prevent the Phillies reaching the World Series last year.
Lee has a better postseason ERA than Halladay even after last night.
If Halladay is better, it isn't obvious.
Lee has pitched in 11 games, Halladay - 4.
Small sample size for comparison.

Yeah, he's starting to come back to the mean.
He's a career .633 win percentange pitcher, 3.65 ERA . After last night, he sits at .700 for the post-season, 2.52 post-season ERA.
Which at the end of the day, is just an exercise in statistics. He's pitching more games, and more likely to pitch as he normally has done over the course of his career.
If the Phillies remain in it, look for him to split his starts, maybe 3-2 if he gets 5 decisions, and have an ERA around 4 or so.
Whatever. If I had one game I needed to win I'd give the ball to Halladay. That simple.

brogan1 was prophetic about Werth's crappy year with the Nats. Well done, sir!

The loss of Werth is big, but he will not be a threat while playing for the Nationals.
Not going to argue about "greatest ever" postseason pitcher. But why was Lee pitching to Pujols of all people when the game was tied 4-4 late in the game, a man on third and 1st base open? It goes to show that even if you are a great postseason pitcher, its best not to buy into your own hype and use some common sense.
