Actually, he ran 12:52, not 12:51 and it was the only time all season he ran under 12:55. There wasn't any sign that Bekele in 2009 could have challenged his world record. I doubt he would have wanted to put that kind of effort into Zurich, either. He still had to win in Brussels a week later for the Golden League jackpot, which he ended up doing. In fact, I think the sacrifice he made in doubling at Worlds was that it did make winning the Golden League jackpot more difficult.
Whatever man. The British announcers on Universal sports talked about him wanting to make a World Record at Zurich both during the World Championships at Berlin and during the race at Zurich. Do you think I just made that up, and picked the number 7:30 for 3000m out of my head?
Plus, remember how that whole thread got resurfaced "how soon will Bekele totally annihilate all the World Records from 2000m to 10000m" after his Berlin performance? He definitely could have been in WR shape had he not done the double at Berlin. I don't think it makes sense that he would have been worried of losing the jackpot: it was barely any contest for each meet except for the first 5000m he ran in the golden league series when he got spiked.
