Solinksy...damn...another great race. Wisconsin in the house!
Rupp, 13:07, personal best, not too shabby!
Good day for the USA!
OOOOOHHH SOLINSKY! Soooooo close. Bekele had it in the bag, but Solinski was in 2nd with 50 to got and got nipped in the last few meters. No AR, but probably one of his best races ever. The 64/65/63 in the last 3 laps cost him the AR, but he had the best race plan regardless. Taking the lead and pushing earlier wouldn't have allowed him to kick with the rest of them.
12:56.45 official time.
Ruppy somewhere over 13:00. Soooooo close for him too. He fell off when the pace got hot, but still a commendable run for him.
PR for Rupp. Seems like just recently if an American ran 13:07, everyone would be going nuts. Now its a disappointment. Thats pretty amazing, if you think about it.

WOAH! Missed that in all the excitement! Way to go Mo!
This is so f'n exciting man! I'm already used to Solinsky being up there but what a treat. We've suddenly got one of the best 5k/10k runners in the world.
Lovin' it
Solinsky's last 400m was like a 55.xx
They didn't really start moving until 300m to go, not a bad finish for a fast pace, but that won't win you any medals. 10k IMO.
Rupp is always one step behind where everyone thinks he'll be.
But he always ends up being where we think he'll be time wise.
When those two merge, in a WC or Oly year, Rupp will shine.
Still incremental improvement.
mo farah 12:57, huge PR for him. also chris solinsky is a 100% medal threat at this point, as he has now proven the ablity to kick off a slow pace with the best of the best. (alrite, no kenny b, but his little bro and merga are no slouches)

16 THOMPSON, Christopher GBR 13:28.43
That was a seriously good race for Solinsky; perhaps better for his overall progression than a PR. Farah did lovely as well, and though Rupp was expected to do more, that is a PR, no? 13:07 isn't out of line with his 10k PR.
Solinsky: no doubt he has balls and his time with Jerry has finally blossomed. I think he's reached a place where he can be consistently competitive in the world, a la Kennedy.
You gotta give Rupp props for 13:07 though. While we are now looking at sub-13 as the expecation, 13:07 is a LEGIT time for an American. Just like his 10k in Solinsky's shadow, the kid is continuing to improve and put out big times. More to come!

so whats rupp's excuse this time?
since when do you need an excuse for pr'ing?

No way he would have been able to kick for 2nd/3rd if he did that.

Please never, ever post again. Solinksy didn't "blow" anything. You have no idea what it takes to race at that level, much less to walk the razor's edge to actually a race a sub 13. Solinsky was there to race. He was not there to play the role of tragic-sacrificial-lamb-Pre guy who leads the race and gets smoked the final 400m.
Fantastic run by Solinsky- smart, composed, focused, and he kicked well off of a respectable pace. Should be yet another confidence booster in what has easily been the most impressive summer of racing by an American male distance runner ever.
And a solid run by Rupp as well- a 3 second or so PB? Not the sub 13 I'm sure he was hoping to run, but some solid experience nonetheless.
Rupp got his best. 13:07 is a fast time and not something too many Americans have achieved. It is also a logical improvement. He is not going to jump from 13:10 to 12:57. Mo Farah on the other hand...what a race for him!
Solinky has to work on that final 800. T. Bekele made that move and just hung on. Solinsky tied just enough for Merga to motor past for 2nd. You cannot fault one spec of CS's race. He is making American history right now...sweet!
The 10th or 11th lap was like 65 something. I don't think anyone would have hurt much more had they run a 63-64 on that lap. I am talking about the top runners in general, not blaming Solinsky for his strategy.
Solinsky got into a bit of trouble on the inside on the back-straight, hoping to slip through, but he recovered well.
Solinsky...not only can he run fast but he knows how to race. If he can keep this up he is a SERIOUS medal contender at worlds next year and in two years at London...who knows what could happen. So exciting to watch him race today. He is going to do big things on a world stage.
Solinsky really surprised me beating so many solid guys and almost getting Merga. 26:59, 12:56, 13:08, 12:55, 12:56. What a string of races! Rupp 13:07 to close a year where he set PBs in everything but the 1500. Teg has only run faster than 13:07 twice.
Great for Mo Farah to join the sub-13 crew too!
And correct me if I'm wrong, but does young Bekele have any Olympic or WC medals? Seems like he runs really fast in the off-years.
