That's a really great read "No Longer Stressed"! I could envision the trails just like it was yesterday...although it was back in the '80's. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Nice work, no longer stressed.
9:13 is killing it!
Glad you enjoyed the race, and your stay in the PNW.
Sunday - Heels killing me. DNR. 50 situps and pushups.
Bought some Gel Kayno 15's & got all old running shoes out of the house: returned for credit or donated. My left foot was, oddly enough, instantaneously free from pain the instant I put the left shoe on in the store. Very odd.
Cannot wear slippers nor 'soft' soled shoes anymore. Goodbye Converse All-Stars.
Monday - Walked 1 mile at lunch, 20:00 on exercise bike.
Still sore, but marginally better.
Tuesday - Ditto + 75 situps and pushups. Heel improved a bit more. NO limping when I got up from my desk at work.
Wednesday - Family stuff. DNR. NO LIMPING WHEN I GOT OUT OF BED. Minor victory.
Thursday - Walked 1 mile at work at lunch. 20:00 on exericse bike, 50/25/25 crunches, 75 pushups. Bad T-storms, DNR.
Friday - Walked 1 mile at work. Club run tomorrow.
Saturday - 5 1/2 mile club run. Feet felt OK, just felt terribly deconditioned. Cross fingers for tomorrow AM.
"No minimalism for you!" - The Shoe Nazi

I was a diehard minimalist for years. My feet "felt" best in lightweight-no support racers. Unfortunately, letting my feet "do" what they wanted to do, was just hurting things further up in the chain (hips and back). The past month or two I have been using trainers more, but mostly trying to get used to the insoles that I need use now. I guess they will work in lighter shoes, but I need some of the features of the insoles to correct my footplant and stride.
Pardonnez-moi. These are Kayano 16's NOT 15's, if that matters. My bad.
TDF: good luck.
No longer stressed -- I had been waiting for your race report and I'm so glad you posted it here. Great job!!!! I've had the pleasure of having Meghan beat me oh so many times (I'm batting 1 for who knows how many times). The one time I almost won money here, Megs got to double-dip. She's a fierce competitor and very focused trainer and she's in fabulous shape at 49. No shame in coming in 2nd to her.
The trail race was okay, but I was disappointed in not having more in my legs and I know that I mentally just gave up before the half-way mark. I generally don't race in the summer (despite growing up on "Racing in the Streets" - "summer's here and the time is right, for racing in the streets". ;-) ) I don't think I have the proper focus and I sure know I didn't do the fast training I'd need to run well. So, I guess I'm satisfied with how it turned out.
My legs have been dead all week, though, and they are just coming around now. Even so, I am determined to boost my mileage (hovering around 60 miles) back up to my previous "normal" mileage of 70+. I'm sick of feeling fat and flabby (and horrified at the photos) and the only way it will get better is with miles. I also need to work on my form as I'm swinging my leg around instead of lifting it. I even do that walking around the house, so that's going to be a tough habit to change.
I'm really bummed that you can't do HTC (and now nyloco can't either). I think we've filled the spot, but it would have been nice to meet you!
Oh and that 22% grade? There's video of Ian Dobson loping up it like it's no big deal. The rest of us must be slackers! ;-)
