Rinsing with Sugar Water

This has been talked about before, but it sounds like they're continuing to figure out why. It makes sense, considering we have specific enzymes in our mouth for carbohydrate digestion (and as pointed out in the study, there's a neural connection).

I've used this to great effect twice in marathons. Each time I took a gel at around 23-24 miles to hold off the wall, and within several minutes, I could feel a big difference in perceived exhaustion. I didn't spit it out, but the gel did have an effect well before it could have been digested. Good to see the research continuing on the brain-body connection in endurance activities. Dr. Noakes will be validated yet!

Oh, the brain and the body are separate again now?

I thought that myth was disposed of in the 80's.

NY times generally publishes garbage science articles. Remember the "no-cooldown" piece a few months ago? I'll have to take a look at the original study.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm saying the brain and body are very connected, and I believe you're misunderstanding me.

I'm referring to Dr. Timothy Noakes' Central Governor theory, which has been widely criticised, I think, unfairly. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

The no-cooldown piece was right on. There's no reason to go out and run more than a minute or two other than to pack in some junk miles.

Renato Canova has said as much on here (he doesn't tell people to cool down, but they can if they want).
