I have a hernia diagnosed and am waiting for an operation. Is it better to have the 'old method' of operation, or the 'new' laperoscopic operation? Also what is better general anaesthetic, where they put you to sleep, or 'local anaesthetic' where you are conscious, with less risk than occurs with full anaesthesia?
I am a former 32"/2.30" (10k/marathon) runner, but now older, but still reasonably fit. How does the mesh which the surgeons put in your body, affect the running in the future.
Last, as the operation is so expensive in the UK and the U.S.A, and there is an 8-10 year waiting list in the UK, I am thinking of having the operation done in another country, with much lower costs (Thailand, Philippines, or other.
Will a hernia affect future running?
