GREGSON VS. WHEATING MONACO 1500!

Neither of them finishes in the top 3...that is my thought.

this will finally prove that Wheating had no right to be in that Bowerman Mile....

gregson is gonna pump wheating in 3:32 and when gregson flys by wheating in the last 400 wheating will simply stop, give up and step off the track, done.

gregson to come 4th or thereabouts in 331 with wheating 333 at best..

I'd say 5th place shows he DID deserve to be in that Bowerman Mile. You could make an argument that a few of the guys in the International Mile should have been there over some of the guys who finished well back in the Bowerman Mile.

I would really like to see Wheating actually go after it here, though. Nothing stupid trying to frontrun and all, but really go after it, rather than hang back and make it all up in the last 300 and finish wondering "was there more in the tank?" Like someone said above, neither Wheating nor Gregson will be top 3 at this meet. This is one that is always stacked. But I'd like to see them both latch onto that lead pack and really go after something big.

It's easy to feel you had something left in the tank if you run the race correctly. Wheating didn't really pick up the pace at the end, others were just dying and he was holding the pace, which makes it feel like you have something left in tank when you run the race correctly. Wheating ran his Pre perfectly. If he had mixed it up with the leaders that would have made him stupid at that point in his career. You should be running your last 300m at about the same pace or a bit faster.

There's a reason he passed so many people, and it wsan't because he left something in the tank. It was because the others didn't do what Wheating did....the right thing.

You do realize that he ran nearly the entire race in lane 2. Thats hardly "perfect"

you always seem to defend runners, which is great, but Wheating himself said that he did not run Pre the right way. He did not go when he needed to and as a result he left with something in the tank. He also, as the above poster said, ran in lane 2. I'd love to see him leave it all on the track for once, in his last Euro meet of the year, as per the schedule, by being more aggressive about staying in range of the leaders, drafting and relaxing until the last lap.

And as for Gregson, a tremendous runner who ran 2 seconds slower at Pre.

I agree with Mrr. Solinski really went after it at Pre. Look what happened to him. Still a great time, but 12 seconds slower than his PB and he was just in awful form on the last lap, really fell apart. Some people just can't hang with the lead group. Wheating ran the best race he could possibly run. I never, ever have heard Wheating or any runner for that matter admit that they have very little room left for improvement.

One has to laugh at some of the fools who post at LR. Fact is Wheating is a big guy who would be stupid to get caught in lane one when things break open in a race. For a young guy, Wheating has learned quickly and well. He hasn't had the perfect race yet, but he has had a series of very good races, an at this stage of his career that shows good coaching, good judgement, and talent. I see Wheating's performances as the glass at least half full. The poster sees Wheating (and everyone else) as having a nearly half empty glass. Foolish and stupid.

he's been on the outside in the last turn, because he had more in the tank than the other runners and needed to pass a lot of people. He did pass some of them. He's had a great year. But to optimize his times at his current fitness and challenge for some wins, he is going to have to get up closer to the front, third, fourth or fifth, prior to the last 200m. At that point the kick will not be as strong but it won't have to be.

with all dus respect it is kind of easy to lay off the back and have run left, he ran a nice time, but you will beat only the other faders, he was never in this race and really did run unnecessarily wide as he was last or second to last off the turn.

If he is positioned just a bit better upwards in the race , he could then run on the infield like the other guy and PR even better.

Seriously, so far Wheating runs with a College Big Kicker flaw, he is/was able to bang down almost all his opposition, it will never work in big time comp.

His talent though is very big, I hope he does not wind up being one of these guys that runs in his comfort zone most of teh race and then runs late and gets up for nothing.

despite Wheatings comments to the contrary his last lap at PRE was about ~56secs ( check the video ) which when you are running 3.51 is actually not that much of a negative split, as mentioned above pretty much bang on splits for him everyone else just died. Otherwise we will see a 3.31 next right?

Yes Wheatings results at the Bowerman was excellent, but he got a free pass into that race when he shouldn't have, because he was the local duck boy... This is the diamond league people, not a two bit yankee-help-ya-mate-out side show, athletes should be accepted on their merits... not on potential. How many good international athletes are going to want to jump on a plane out to the US for meets when the organisers are going to overlook them for the local college kid.

Gregson on his merits should have been all over that race, instead he had to run the "international mile" which he duly spanked.

Gregson will show in Monaco just how wrong that decision was
