So, I'm training for xc in the fall (8-10k). My last two weeks were mid 80's with this one about 60. I took this one easy as my coach told me to take a down week every 2 weeks.
What are all yall takes on down weeks? Is the 'taking them when you need them' approach too reactive (as in non-proactive), as one might already be a bit burt out/overtrained by that point? Do you take down weeks once every 2 (as I'm trying this summer)? Once every 3? Once every 4 or more? Never?
If nothing else it seems like a good mental break before upping the mileage to infinity... AND BEYOND (90s and up)
