Being able to have CONSISTENT AEROBIC DEVELOPMENT throughout ones racing career
Training advice on letsrun.
Principle One: Gradual, incremental increase in distance run for a given time, or gradual, incremental decrease in time for running a given distance.
Principle Two: Rest after that effort long enough to repair and regain strength, thereby helping to prevent injury.
Principle Three: Aerobic time per week should be built up gradually to at least 10 hours per week, continuing to build towards 15 hours per week, or slightly beyond. Runners often call this "miles," but it is really time that is the key to building endurance capacity.
Give your body the realistic challenge it must adapt to, and it will. Jump ahead in training too quickly and the improvement process breaks down as all rejuvenation is occupied in repair, not strengthening, with the repair eventually unable to keep up with the damage and injury ensues.
As I see it, these are the three most important, listed in order of importance.
Good luck.
