I expected about a 3:51.75, so he barely surpassed my expectations, which kind of pisses me off. I will expect better next time.

I thought Wheating would be way back and at best beat one of his fellow Americans.
Glad to be proven dead wrong. Great race. Hopefully he'll continue such great running/racing.

call me when Wheating goes 3:45
We will.
I Uplouded the last lap of the race if anybody wants too see..:P
A couple of things:
I said a long time ago that Wheating is a miler, although he could probably could run 1:44x right no and get down to 1:43x in time. His lack of raw speed will alway limit him in the 800, while the sky is the limt in the mile.
He ran the race yesterday like he was just happy to there and ended up surprising himself, but the "big dogs were the 4 guys up front competing for the win.
Possibly by now you have read ALL of Wheating's quotes and learned that he realized after the race that he left "too much in the tank," and realized he could have gone earlier and gone for the win.
He is still learning. But he learns fast.
The thing that is most striking to me about this board is how fukking negative most of you are; and how naturally positive and happy Wheating is -- and that joy is a big piece of what makes him run fast and well.
You all ought to try to get out of your own bad selves once in a while...and just enjoy the progress of up and coming runners.
In those conditions (a stiff breeze) 3:45 is virtually a world record. Thats what he has to do to run with the "big guys"? Furthermore, its not just a matter of how close he was with the leaders. If it was a situation where he had been at or near the lead on the final lap and the leaders blew him away, than yeah, that would show he was out of his league. But this was a case of Wheating running towards the back but not letting anyone in the race run away from him. Not even the leaders kicking for the win. I get it that Wheating was likely in more peak form than the rest of the runners. He's not ready to medal by any means. But he belongs at that level.

Its a decent race for him but really not that great in the world scene. he didn't really hang with the big guys at all and a 3:51 is still like 5 seconds from where webb was only a few years ago. call me when Wheating goes 3:45

It's morons like you who ruin this sport. Oh he should move up, he has no speed, just needs some endurance! Fact is, endurance can be gained just like speed can be gained. His lack of raw speed? Please don't say stupid things like that. Only f'tards say retarded things like "raw speed". His speed isn't maxed out. One can get faster.
Only in rare cases are there people bright enough to understand this, which is one of the reason why our sport is so pathetic. Past olympic 800 champ Borz understood this. Instead of moving up, he moved down, and worked on his speed. He'll go down as one of the greatest 800 runners ever.
I think it's really going to come down to the size of his balls. It's just all balls from here on out. w/ balls = sub 3:50. w/o balls: stuck at 3:50.
What is Wheating's 200m? Anyone?
I think if you're an 800/1500 guy (training for and racing both events) you're giving up some of your true potential in the 15, and you should at least eventually move up completely, at least training-wise.
Who knows though with Wheating. I could see him going 1:43.high if he races a rabbited 800 soon. But considering how well he moves up, and that he doesn't seem to have necessarily INSANE 400 speed, the 15 will probably be where he ends up in the long run.
Agreed. However, put him on a diet of 90-100 mile weeks, and I could see him more likely contending in the 1500 in championship events. Frankly, just doing that would probably get him down to sub-1:44, sub-3:30 range.
