NCAA Cross Country meet to start rotating

We should run it in Des Moines, Iowa through the snow and blizzards while finishing on the Drake Stadium track. That would be a sight to behold with the crowded stadium.

I have run on both a few times and ISU is much better. But I also think the ISU course isn't challenging enough. Cross Country is supposed to be a challenge. Lots of hill, turns, and crappy weather if possible.

The cross country course at my school is far superior to the cross country course at your school. Therefore, the NCAA's should be held at the cross country course at my school.

It's not enough that Oregon gets the outdoor track NCAA's three times in five years, but they get the cross country NCAA's too?

Yes, OREGON. Just the facts: Hayward Field = Lots of knowledgeable spectators; Arkansas = small crowd; Des Moines = pretty good crowd, but nothing like in Oregon. Obviously you have never attended a meet (Track or XC) in Oregon. Ask the runners if they want to run in Oregon and see what most say. It's is THE destination spot for running (and Field events for that matter). OREGON, OREGON, OREGON ...

This is true. From an athlete standpoint it doesn't get much better than saying you ran at Hayward Field or in Eugene for the NCAAs.

Collegiate runners are a bunch of useless pussies. You can't even come close to elite times. I mean seriously... a good mile time in college isn't even close to what the top guys are running! You guys suck and are slow and useless.

Saw the '98 race as a spectator and it was epic. Goucher, the Hauser's, and even a young Bernard Lagat was there. Great course, definitely a winner. Just do not combine all three classes. That was a mistake.

How about hosting it in Texas at least?

what about the spokane course? they have hosted club and us nats the last couple of years and its been highly successful. Plus i thought originally that ISU, Oregon and the Spokane site were the top 3 bids left to get nats? what ever happened to that?

To increase popularity the NCAA Cross Country championships have to be spread around the nation to various cities. NCAA should have a 10-year 500 mile rule which mandates that NCAA not repeat the same location within 500 miles for 10 years. That rule would be best for our sport.

From many reports, Louisville, whose course is very subpar and doesn't meet many of the course requirements to host NCAA's (and the bigger beast Pre-Nats), received this bid only because thy have an AD that site on this clueless cabinet. It's what happens when ignorance meets politics.

To make this work, you actually need schools to submit bids. Why was it in Terre Haute for so long? Because NO ONE else was submitting legitimate bids. It's a hell of a lot of work to pull something like this off and do it right. ISU and Terre Haute have it down very well at this point, but the boost (small...who was referring to "corporate interests here? haha!) to the local economy and higher profile/prestige/home-field advantage gained by the school often isn't enough to off set the cost/time/work for several schools/locations...especially if you have a team to coach in the race. It can definitely be done...it's just not a slam dunk or several other schools would be submitting bids...let's just say site selection is not a competitive process currently.

And Oregon will be hosting it in Portland. Not at Portland Meadows though...

Louisville had an athletic administrator chair the NCAA sport committee which choses the site. Thats how it happens. Louisville will do a great job of putting the meet on, the only problem is that its a horrible course, maybe the worst the NCAA has ever chosen.

Tom Sawyer is a good site. The NCAA selection process must be altered to select sites based on rotation and geography for the good of the sport. The current bid process does not work. More sites need to be selected using NO-BIDs.

bring one down south, how about winthrop or furman?

Another clueless alphabet organization, NAACP, has a boycott in SC so the NCAA will not award a non-merit based championship to a SC school. This is because the confederate falg flies on the SC statehouse grounds. Furman and Winthrop would both host it or regionals but cannot. Since baseball regionals and super-regionals are awarded to teams based on achievement, the NCAA allows championships to school that earn the right to host.

I know Missouri State was bidding for Nats. Why didn't they get it? Midwest Regionals went over pretty good there last fall and its as centrally located as its going to get.
