couple errors -- Solinksky didn't break Ritz's 5k did he? Lagat did, Solinsky right behind it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
And if only Solinsky knew what he was capable of, he could have run in the 27:40s, huh.

That was a typo or Bairu had a brain slip. Surely it was 26:40's. I'm agreeing with Ryan Foreman on this one though, no race EVER, EVER goes 100% perfect at 5K or 10K and that went about as perfect as it could. The fact is, had he gotten to 9100 meters faster, he may not likely couldn't have come up with as much kick. A lot of time can be made up on the last lap or 2 if you have it in you, if you've already run it out all you can do is hang on like Rupp and Chelanga did. Surely there was some time left in his legs that night but 10 seconds or more is getting a bit loose.
Regardless, very good article on Solinsky. Sounds like that nightmare training partner though, and perhaps the reason he struggled with the 5K for so long was precisely because of his constant grinding even on the off days. In the long run though, if he can stay healthy like reported, it may all pay off for him. It seems to have already started to.

You obviously haven't seen some of the rabbited Euro-meets. Lots of guys running sub-13/27 who aren't a factor in championship meets that don't go under those times. If his last 800 was 2:00, I would agree about his potential, but 1:56-low in the lead while running around lapped runners, and being so fresh at the the end- I'll go with Bairu on this one.
Okay. Care to give a reason why you disagree? Because Bairu said it doesn't make it true. What he is saying is like those who say wind power can provide produce all the energy America needs. Strictly speaking that is a true statement. Practically speaking, its flat out false. quote]last lap wrote:

Alberto comparing Solinsky to Armstrong is a bit like Trevor Graham comparing Usian Bolt to Marion Jones. It's not a comparison that anyone should welcome.
I guess you didnt do so hot the verbal section??
In all great or super fast efforts , world class athletes all feel like that they could have run faster and that they will run faster for than the time they just ran. Less than half ever do. Woulda ,coulda , shoulda

Also, in break through efforts like that, looking at how much the athlete appears to be struggling can be very deceptive. In almost all my break through races I've both looked and felt easy and under control. This does not mean that you can necessarily run faster, it's just the nature of a great performance.
Also, imagine the adrenaline going through your body when you cross the line and see 26:59, my guess is all the pain in the world would feel like nothing.
So, I can't say for sure that Solinsky would not have run faster that day, but just looking at perceived effort can be very deceptive.
It's all because of the COMPRESSION SOCKS. Keep it compressed people.

That's a retarded response.
