rupp doesant have the closing speed that solinsky has there is no way he could have closed in a 1:56 even if he didnt lead for a chunk of the race.

Technically; you are wrong. The record was not certified at the very moment Solinsky finished. I'm not even sure if the record is certified now. It probably takes several months. So, Rupp can genuinely say he ran faster than the american record.
That said, yeah, Solinsky went under the record before Rupp did.

This is why Rupp will run 26:49 when he puts it together at the end of the season and peaks correctly... just perfect example of power, form, and efficiency..

The photo is missing the thought bubbles though.
Rupp: "Aren't my rabbits handy and isn't my form impeccable?"
Chelenga: "Ha, we ran faster than this to school and back"
Bairu: "Yeah, even my sisters."
Solinsky: "Never mind me boys, I'm just out for a tempo run. Mind if get my heart rate up a bit the last two laps?"
Typ. Sorry Sam. ChelAnga.
Look at Solinsky's face... eye of the tiger.
Hes like Clubber Lang in Rocky III. "Nike doesn't want me to have the title 'cause I'm not a puppet like that fool up there! Im the baddest in the world! uhhhhhhh! uhhhhhhh! uhhhhhh!"
Awesome race. Thanks to Stanford and Nike for setting it up and to all the athletes for making it great. I love how Rupp went out there doing what he had to do to try and run the race he wanted. Congratulations to Solinsky and the others for a great race, but you can be sure the only reason I was up at 1am watching it online was because I knew Galen Rupp was showing up with a purpose.
didn't rupp close his NCAA victory outdoor 5k or 10k in 3:00 or 2:59 for the last 1200. pretty good speed, granted off a slower pace. but i think if rupp fires on all cylinders he can hang with solinsky. 10 seconds in a 10k is not a massive gap.
either way, can't wait for summer to see both of these great runners mix it up in europe and drop the record perhaps even lower.
I was at the race and thought I saw Rupp motion to Solinsky to move on past with about 900m to go. I think Rupp knew he was done for before Solinsky hammered on past.
why do so many people hate rupp? it seems like a lot of people think he's spoiled, but if someone is that good and has access to the resources he does it seems like it would be a waste to not use them. also hard to say how much of the hyping before the race was from galen himself, probably more from salazar and nike. It seems like people are forgetting that 27:10 is an unbelievable time too and the second fastest an American has ever run...
I just hope he doesn't talk about being the Big Elephant and sitting wherever he wants to. I want him to be, at least a little, angry and disappointed. He should come away from this hungry.

Rupp has outkicked Wheating (800 Olympian, 1:45, 3:37) and Eliot Heath (WC indoor team) in kicker's race at 1500m Pac-10 conference in a 52 last lap. He recently outkicked Solinsky off the WC indoor team. Any other idiotic comments to add?
Race was sat night, it is now monday night, where is Galen Rupp? Speak to us big boy!

Galen Rupp is a pansy. Chis Solinsky is the man. This is always how is has been, and how it will be.
....and, he ran 27muthafvckin10.
Letsrun never ceases to amaze me.
Only at letsrun can a 23yr old national who ran 27:10 be kicked and dissed. I need to gouge my eyeballs out before I attempt another look at this site.

I could be remembering wrong...but i thought it was off pace and Rupp did the exact same thing, took the lead and pushed the pace only to get taken over. He made that race too unless my memory is failing me. Two great efforts by Rupp, just had others who were that much better. No shame in his 13:14i or 27:10 losses. Both are huge accomplishments
That was possibly the most important American race of all time. By 2012 the US will be a force. I watched the race twice the day after on flotrack and got chicken skin both times. Sure I would have liked to see Rupp break 27 but he will do it, there is no doubt about that. But seeing Solinsky do it is even better, it just adds another big gun. We now have Rupp, Ritz, Teg, Lagat, Solinsky, Meb, and Hall at 5k and up (that's not counting the collegians). Yes this is a good time to be a fan of American distance running and mid distance (go cas loxsom!!!! 1:46 from CT!!!!). One other thing reading what some of you hater say about Rupp and Nike makes me sick. Nike has been the best thing for running since 1975 and the Oregon project and OTC are he best things for running now, that includes all of there athletes. USA running all the way!!!

it was an awesome night for US distance running. So many guys stepped up. Remember 10 years ago when cracking 28 was still a big deal? We had 4 go under 27:35 in ONE RACE. In MAY! The whole Rupp/Solinsky rivalry is missing the point. The point.... is that we are well on the way to becoming respectable at this distance. Bring Ritz back into the mix, and we have 3 sub 27 guys by 2012....... 4 if Teg were to move up, except... well......
but Teg does not run the 10k

I might be wrong about the indoor 5K, but I think it was more of an effort to get it going because he knew leaving to the last lap was 99% risk of murder by lagat. That was more of a race with the understanding the AR was likely going to fall.
This was definitely a situation where the AR would only fall if Galen was a work horse and goes for it in the guts of the race. I'm sure neither pleased him, but this was likely much worse.
Only at Letsrun would a 23 year old AMERICAN continually get bashed even after he runs 27:10. How far has this kid come? I mean... Obviously he has been good for a long time, but its not like it's an easy to feat to win every single race.
Anyone who is even half way decent at running realizes that getting fast is about HARD WORK. You guys always whine about Nike / Alberto / him being pampered / his unfair advantages - but guess what? Take away his anti G treadmills and oxygen tents (that every major school / pro group has had the last few years anyway - yes, fact. ) and he'll just put in more work some other way to make up for it.
EVERYONE IS BETTER HAVING GALEN IN THE RACE. Now stop whining and have some freaking national pride.
He would never make it through the rounds!
