Has Rupp made any comments since the race?
Has Rupp made any comments since the race?
I'm sure he is royally pissed. He broke the AR but lost. To an American. This is probably a good thing for him, he should come back and run 26:50 this summer.
Why would Rupp be pissed? He ran a personal best and others were simply better. This is nothing new. I am sure he is used to it by now.
No he's crying
You would think he would have been interviewed by Ken Goe at minimum, but he is tight-lipped. Maybe saving it for the documentary that Nike shot last night. 5 cameras. wow
Wahhhhhh, I wanted the attention on me and I got my f***ing ass kicked by a guy who doesn't give a shit about pollen.
Uhm, Rupp is not like you, he does not get "pissed."
He re-focuses.
Dedication. Focus. Excellence.
Words you don't know...
I have heard that Galen and Alberto are going to petition USATF to have the record nullified.
Their claim is that Solinsky's tactics were not Rupp-certified.
I saw Rupp 20 minutes after the race in the athlete area and he was royally pissed and not speaking to anybody. He just kind of secluded himself in a dark corner. I don't even think he cooled down.
I still think Rupp is generally satisfied with the performance. But that said, there are a few reasons why he could be a little pissed.
1. I think he may have realized that Solinsky simply out trained him by having more quality, intense workouts. I really don't think Rupp is pissed in and of itself about Solinsky beating him. But I think he realizes that Solinsky would have beaten him even if Rupp had truly tried to win by not front running for 7 laps.
2. Rupp seems very focused on staying within himself and sticking to a race plan set before the race. In this race it was to run a generally fast but even pace throughout. But when Solinsky passed him I think he got caught up in chasing Solinsky which I think took out his legs in the last lap. I have a hunch he could have run a few seconds faster than he did had he not done that.
3. There was a moment there when Solinsky tripped Rupp up with late in the race. It would be understandable if Rupp took that as an insult seeing as how he was already giving Solinsky a gift by front running.
...bunch of bull on this site. Galen sacrificed himself making the pace when it most hurts in a 10K,...therefore he was unable to respond when Solinsky went by.
Quiet simple,...and it doesn't take anything away from Solinskys performance!!
Did Rupp say anything cocky before the race about what he would do and how he would smash a record? NO!! Did Salazar? NO!!! His comments where blown up by the media,...and there you have it again. The only thing anybody could criticise is that they were "soo" picky about where they'd run it and that Nike is pulling the strings. But remember,...no money,...no records.
Without Nike paying for the whole deal with pacemakers and whatnot,...no record!!
I honestly wonder if some of the people on this board ever raced at all or are really runners at all??

You've got it all right there Bro'. Without Nike there wouldn't be this resurgence of American distance Running or the Oregon Project & OTC as Nike has paid for all this since 2001 and in 9 years has come a long way and well and truly put Amercian distance Running back on the map!
Solinsky and Rupp had an awesome race and should be honoured for that. I too wonder if any of you really know what it feels like to train hard all year and then go out and nail it as both Rupp and Sol did. Try racing hard once and you might see things differently and stop talking so much unnecesary bullsh*t!!! Go OTC!!!

Yeah, if Rupp would have followed Solinsky from 50 meters behind, then he would have won!

you do realize that it would have given rupp a much better chance of victory, right? or have you never raced before?
that wasn't the point of the race for rupp though. I hope that when he has time to think the whole event over, he's pretty happy. he led the thing and got the time he wanted. when he can get in a more stacked race and follow he could drop significant time.
Angry Rupp. I don't believe you. What were you doing in that dark corner? You are BSing us.
Galen Rupp will be OK, Chris Solinsky had many races like Galen before he but it together tonight. I mean when is the last time Chris won a race?
that was very specical race tonight, Chris may never come close to it again!...or anyone else for that matter.
Rupp should be happy with his run. He set out to break the AR, and he did. Unfortunately for him, Solinksy had a breakthrough. I'm sure Rupp isn't satisfied with second-best, but lets not act like he should be pissed. The race had great performances all around. 3 records, at least half a dozen PRs, etc. The best part is that its MAY. These performances bode for a wild summer
it was an awesome night for US distance running. So many guys stepped up. Remember 10 years ago when cracking 28 was still a big deal? We had 4 go under 27:35 in ONE RACE. In MAY! The whole Rupp/Solinsky rivalry is missing the point. The point.... is that we are well on the way to becoming respectable at this distance. Bring Ritz back into the mix, and we have 3 sub 27 guys by 2012....... 4 if Teg were to move up, except... well......
Agree, you hit the nail on the head.
There are far too many a**holes on this site always ready to hand out negative comments. In this case, they'd rather bash Rupp than praise Solinsky (and Rupp) for a superb performance.
This sort of bashing does not belong here at all. This is just like trashing Deena after a poor London race, should of never been allowed to hit the letsrun home page........ok, here we go.....
What would anybody expect Rupp to say?
"I had a plan, I ran that plan. I had a good race. Of course I'm not happy with losing but that was as good a race as I could run tonight and Chris was just better on this day. Congratulations to him on a great accomplishment. I guess I am going to have to train and try to get him next time."
