I love how events are held in places where nobody gives a rip about the sport.
Like that BS where they were held in Hawaii a number of years back - simply a way for some USATF folks to get a vaca in Hawaii.
San Diego, hardly synonymous with cross country.
Oregon, Boulder, Van Cortlandt Park, Boston, ...

What makes you think Rupp will run next year? If anything, it looks like the big names are shunning XC.
Would not call Rupp a big name.Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa could be considered a big name.

It seems like they are. Last year was not much of a competition. Why should we think 2011 will be any different?
SD is in So Cal, the T&F Capitol of the World. The OTC is in Chula Vista. SD did the best job on any USATF XC in the past 20 years a few years back. SD is a prime winter vacation spot. People brought their families and stayed the whole week. SD is Hawaii on the cheap. The only other place which did a better job was 2009 PAC-10 at Long Beach Golf Course. That was the best cross country meet ever held on North American soil. It was planned by USC to be a day trip from PAC-10 towns to Long Beach Airport, w/o the need of a rental car nor hotel stay.

Anybody?
Rupp isn't one of the big boys. He doesn't have a chance at medalling at Daegu so he may as well run XC to get the free travel experience and have fun while he can for a few more years.

That'll be nice to have USA XC again in So Cal, the undisputed T&F Capitol of the World (with the Summer Olympics medals and IAAF Outdoors medals to prove it).
Seriously, why do you keep posting this? In the last 25 years, the only distance medals southern California can claim are a bronze from Johnny Gray (if you count the 800m) and a silver from Meb Keflezighi (if you count an East African import.) Sprinting/jumping/throwing medals are nice, but this board is about distance running, and no part of the US is picking up a lot of medals at that. (Colorado (Flanagan, and Mark Plaatjes if you count a South African import), New York (Goucher), Pennsylvania (Spence), Massachusetts (Kastor), and New Jersey if you count the 800m (Kenah) have the other recent American distance medals.)
Kastor is from Southern Cal....
Point taken, I just skimmed the first lines of Wikipedia articles. She happened to have been born in Massachusetts.

It's not officially settled, but will likely be back in Mission Bay Park in San Diego, according to my sources at USATF. I would definitely support that idea.
