You can't just put the blame on coaches. You as an athlete have majority of how well you will do
Some big marks in the 10k at Augustana this weekend
1 Greeno, Dan Bethel Unive 30:17.52
2 Spandorfer, Dave Washington U 30:19.99
3 Burnstein, Michael Washington U 30:27.58
no crabo in the steeple with d3-leading 9:09?
I PREDICT that the DIII distance powerhouse of Cortland won't be able to score at nationals in the distance events. Coach Patrick should not be given any credit for Gino B.'s speed, he has nothing to do with that either. Getting C Fred in and other coaches is the only chance Cortland has to be decent....and in that vain, why is coach Patrick given the credit when he wins SUNY coach of year or Atlantic region coach honors, etc...... it is the asst. coaches that are doing the work of keeping good runners running...
and YES< I ran for Daniels in the later 1980's. Cortland has been very fortunate to get some great coaches, Daniels, then Moran, but that has stopped with the hiring of Patrick. If you doubt it look at the data as the kids that Daniels and Moran recruited start graduating, and they have, the results are dropping off big time. Their top girl transferred to a school in Florida to get away. Talk to some of the guys that were there during the change in coaching and you will see that they were not pleased with the new "plan" and it shows.....I am hoping it changes as it has been nice to cheer for them over the recent past.

One recent example of Patricks coaching prowess is Alyson Dalton, turning a relatively decent hs runner (~11 min 3k) into a 37 min 10ker as a sophomore. He's also trained Fr. Matt Knott into a 15 flat 5ker as a freshmen. Sean Curry was doing dirty in xc until he got hurt during indoor.
You're obviously not a grad if you can't respect the way the program is moving. Instead of being just a distance powerhouse as it was in the past, it's becoming a well-rounded overall team. With people performing excellently in ever single event area (yes, even distance).
please start your own thread if you want to talk about cotland non-stop.
Any way what other d3 athletes are running at PENN and what do you guys predict for them.
Lot of D3 relays entered at Drake plus Brady/Spain in the 5k it looks like.

Top returning 1500 runners from last year:
Matt Turlip, 3:50.60
Jeramie Parker, 3:50.85
Wade Ekstrom, 3:50.98
Ekstrom always runs best late in the season, but so far has not done so great in finals. He could pull it off for his last season though.
Yochum from Amherst just ran 3:50 in a low-key Amherst meet yesterday looking EASY. If he stays healthy all comers are done at Nationals.

well that is false the best returning 1500 runner is Ty Griffin of Mount Union he freaking won the national championship. Also with nats being in ohio again he has a great advantage. He just went 3:53, 15:11 double this weekend that is a solid double. This weekend you should see him go 3:51/3:52 low at BW
I simply listed those with the top three returning times from last year. It is not my prediction. It's too early yet.
Brian Cole obviously looks good with his 3:49.80. But a lot can change in a month.

Nick Karwoski, best known for a series of third place finishes in Centennial Conference meets.
He's got a couple of seconds in there too--he and I traded off before he decided to drop a 14:20.
Matt Cash (1:51.79) of Mary Washington is running the 4x8 at Penn.
UMW could possibly put together something in the 7:40-45 range as they have pretty good depth in the 800.
3 Daniel Murner Amherst 29:45.02
Wow thats impressive by Murner. Fastest D3 10k time since Yuot ran 29:21 in 2005. At the same time, he had the fastest 5k indoors and wasn't much of a factor in the race up front. Might be more of a Hany Abdallah type without the overtly cocky attitude.
Mike Heymann ran 14:27 at Penn as well. Spain and Brady of NC ran another 5k at Drake (not sure why), but only ran 14:28 and 14:36 respectively, so no real improvement on their times from before.
Thistle of Susquehanna runs 9:06 and Karwoski is right behind him with a 9:07. Fastest two times this year I believe, though it looks to be a pretty weak year in the steeple thus far.
Big DIII meet this weekend: UAAs at WUStL.
Heat sheets:
http://bearsports.wustl.edu/trackfield/uaa_heat.pdf
Live results:
http://bearsports.wustl.edu/releases/trackUAAResults.html
Most of the distance/mid-distance fields are loaded. If the weather's okay there should be a slew of national qualifying times out of the meet.
NYU does not always put its distance people in their best events at UAAs--they have few hurdlers, jumpers, or throwers, so they're never gunning for a team title in t&f and their distance runners are sometimes are just prepping for other meets--but the heat sheets make it look like the Violets are playing it pretty straight this time. They've got the first and/or second seeds in M1500, MWSC, W10,000, M4x800--even M400.
d3 names I noticed from Penn 10ks:
Women...
Wendy Pavlus- St. Lawrence- 35:12
Kate Leugers- Ithaca- 36:14
Alyssa Dalton- Cortland- 36:41
Men...
Dan Ramsey- St. Lawrence- 30:22
I believe Heymann ran 14:27 for the 5k as well
Not sure if people missed it, but Will Yochum ran 3:50.20 at Amherst's mid-week meet. Second place was 3:57. I'm sure he'll be in the mix at nationals. Pretty good week for Amherst so far.
Parker Valby post 5k interview... Worst of all time? Are Parker Valby interviews always cringe?
MSU men > NAU by 1 point even though Nico Young and Colin Sahlman tripled!!
