Why are we discussing this guy? A daughter and wonderful young woman is gone. Can't we take a moment to think, and if you believe - pray - for her friends and family? Please do so. Then question why this guy was even walking the streets to begin with.

You are correct, adddf. While I agree with Anti-monster's sentiment, I believe that giving the murdering/raping f**cker life in prison is the best punishment. Just tell all his fellow inmates exactly what he has done to innocent girls, and let THEM punish him.

The defendant will end up spending the rest of his life in jail.

His life will constantly be in danger.

The threat of death penalty is useful because it may help solve other murders this guy has likely committed.

I am curious, though, as to what the correct societal response is to the defendant's parents. He was staying at their house, a mile away from the park, a perfect storm for a predator.

Do the parents deserve scorn and ostracism? They had to know just how dangerous he was - having served time for an assault on a 14 year old. I think the parents in fact do deserve such treatment. Unfair? Perhaps. But if I were in the community I would treat them with utmost scorn and openly remind them of their failure to help protect the community. I understand the rebuttal that making life hell on earth for the parents (in only legal ways) is misplaced, but the lesson needs to be driven home that their obligation to society is far greater than their obligation to their son - an obviously exceedingly defective human being.

It is an interesting question. Something similar happened in my town. A "deranged" man around the age of 40 was living with his almost-elderly parents in a very nice part of town and began breaking into homes and raping little girls. It took a while to figure out who it was b/c no one really knew he was living there. He obviously had issues but his parents thought he was just depressed from being laid off from a job 12 YEARS EARLIER.

Anyway, he ended up raping a girl who was old enough to know who he was and identify him - I think she was 13 or 14 - and then DNA from the others had him busted.

His parents wrote letters to the editor and everything, they still think he was wrongly accused despite the evidence/proof.

About the death penalty. The reason some are against it - even in a case like Chelsea's - is because they believe killing is wrong. I believe it is wrong. Do I want to kill this guy? YES! If I were the dad, I would honestly be looking for a way to get to him right now! But I honestly feel that killing is wrong, and even though it goes against my base instincts, I think we should end the death penalty. Plus, killing him is letting him off easy. Make his ass work everyday, digging a hole and then filling it back up. Pointless work with little food. No ipods, cell phones, tvs, cigarettes, etc.

To the guy claiming others are narcissistic. You are wrong, I believe they are empathetic.
