Ok...afer getting HDTV last week and watching some sporting events on Mark Cuban's HDNet, it reminded me of how important it is for us to write to the networks for more coverage. Being a startup network, HDNet is very hungry for programming, and might be interesting in covering our sport. I have done my part by sending Mr. Cuban the note below. I urge everyone who reads this to send him a short note urging him to consider adding T&F to his programming lineup. If you haven't seen a sporting event in HD yet, you won't believe your eyes! I can only dream of what our great sport would look like!

Mr. Cuban,
As a big fan of what you are doing with HDNet, I wanted to write to you to express an idea which I believe to be of great value to HDNet and its programming lineup.
I am a lifelong Track and Field fan. I attend many world class meets each year and watch every minute I can on TV (which are far and few between). I don't know if you are aware of this, but T&F is the largest participatory sport at the high school level in the USA. The collegiate, national, and world class levels have huge followings in this country and even more in Europe. The problem is that the fan base is starved for track and field coverage as well as major road races. These athletes are heroes to many kids as well as adults. You don't find a more pure display of athleticisms as you will with runners, jumpers, and throwers.
As you have surmised, the purpose of my note is to urge you to have your management team at HDNet look into covering some track and field and or road races on your network. I would be honored to act as an unpaid consultant to offer some insight into which events would be the ones to cover (and speaking of which, they would almost pay you to cover the event!). Your cost would probably be production only as most meets don't have any interests by other networks or cable outlets.
The national governing body is USATF
The biggest meets of course are covered by ESPN and NBC, but they are poorly, poorly done, and are only a few meets. There are many Internet sites which do outstanding jobs of providing us with results and information, but the TV coverage is what makes it come alive. One last point of note, marathon running participation is at an all time high. The Chicago, NYC, Boston, London, and Berlin marathons all had sellout fields of 35K plus, not to mention world class and world record performances by the elites in the field. Boston was the only one with any national coverage in the U.S. Runners are craving TV coverage of THEIR sport.
Thanks for listening, and congratulations on the success of HDNet! You are truly a pioneer in our time.
