This is silly.
We all take pleasure in fast times and impressive performance.
We all (I think) enjoy watching American distance runners (US citizens that are both foreign and domestically born….a fuzzy topic for some, not for me) improve.
There is no doubt that not so long ago the US was in a major slump in terms of developing top-notch runners (both the overall depth of the talent pool and the top end stuff).
A few try to address said issue and attempt to develop different training programs and different long term models for developing successful training groups.
We all know money doesn’t grow on trees of 99.99999% of runners trying to make a go of it (not a statistical fact, but more of a qualitative afternoon ballpark percentage).
Sponsorship likes exposure.....ideally exposure of successes resulting from said sponsorship.
Perhaps I’m wrong ( I did choose a career path working on rock-water interactions in the subsurface), but every time someone opens up and exposes their training group, training regiment, or kitchen cabinet in public to talk about positive improvements (or realistic setbacks) in the small world of US distance running.... same old thing happens: Some anonymous person gets all pissy over it.
It is amazing that anyone ever tries to improve or help others improve because apparently it is lose-lose situation.
I no longer run, but as I recall the only reason I ever did run was because it made me happy….and parties at a track house are quite fun. Apparently running and the associated world that revolves around it can make people GRUMPY and JEALOUS. I have a hard time believing that myself, but I am reminded every time American runners make positive strides....someone is always there being grumpy and negative.
I thought that was a nice 4 beer interview....a nice 4 beer mitochondrial growing interview. It sure seems like Greg’s group is coming along very nicely.
p.s. Weldon turns out you should have bought a house out here after all.
p.p.s. I think the roof caved in on you old condo off Lone Tree and there is no way you “purple” Hyundai is getting out of that parking lot now.
