Are the Skylons a good minimalist shoe for people who don't want to wear flats all the time? If you've worn them, what do you think of them?

Never thought of myself as a "minimalist" before, just someone that likes light with still a little softness. The Skylon has been one of my favorite shoes.
Too bad they're on Nike's endangered species list.
I LOVED the first Skylons, in fact they're probably my favorite shoe ever. I absolutely hate the update. Like a piece of cardboard with laces.
Hell yeah, the Skylon is an excellent lightweight trainer. If you have a narrow foot and don't need much support, definately give 'em a try. One of my favorite shoes of the last 20 years. My only beefs are 1) that they've been discontinued, and 2) the outsole tends to pick up and hold a lot of small stones when I run on gravel roads.
Unfortunately they are no longer long lasting, with either or the mesh tearing at the eyelets or the rubber separating in the forefoot area. Price went up and quality went to hell. Let them rest in peace.
They are great. they aren't overly light (9.5 oz or something) so they have some amount of cushion. But they are really as flexible as a flat. Not so good for trails, though I use them for that. The flexibility is from the cut apart sole and the stones and sticks go right up and poke the foot.
they will be back within a few years. the skylon seems to come and go every few years at nike. it doesn't seem like it ever stays around for more than 5 years before nike replaces it.
what would be a good replacement for the skylons? I have been running in the Haywards and Skylons for the last few years. I love the shoe, but the one thing that bothers me is that pebbles get stuck in the gaps on the sole under the heel. I like to get a comparable replacement.
Why would they get rid of it if it's such a great shoe? Also, what do you all think about the Speedstar 3's are they a bit minimalist as well? I'm the OP so I'm allowed to hijack, but I would still like some input on both shoes.
