Something tells me this will be one half-marathon that does not get blown off as a tempo workout by guys like Wanjiru. All this competition, and plus $300k on the line? Come on, who is not going to prepare to go after that?

dubai is 12 hours ahead of california time, so if the race is at 7 A.M. in dubai on jauary 7th, it would be wednesday january 6th at 7 p.m. in california, or 10 p.m. in new york etc.
just an fyi so if the race is on the internet no one who wants to see it misses it.
My pick is Tadese.
This is one very hard to pick.I think the winner will be a surprise to everyone.Micah Kogo is rearing to go.Kitwara has been training so hard for this.Tedessa is as usual ever ready.Wanjiru may have lost some of his speed due to the high milliage he has been doing for marathon training. So out of all the top seeds i rekon wanjiru is the weak one.For Kitwara ,it will be a test of his mental strenght;he cracked in World half champs. Can he redeem himself. For Kogo it is a question of enduarance;his speed is good( he is by far the fastest of the lot on the roads for 10K but can he sustain the speed for 21K?).$300,000 is gonna cause big surprises on the 7th.
someone please post more info about this race!
what's the course and weather like?
what does the full startlist look like?
anyone??
Samuel Wanjiru - 58:33
Patrick Makau - 58:52
Sammy Kitwara - 58:58
Zersenay Tadese - 58:59
Kiplimo Kimutai - 59:44
Micah Kogo - 26:35
Josphat Ndambiri - 26:57
Go to Tobby Tanser's website below. You will find more infomation especially about the individual athletes. He is very close to many of the top african elites.
Women:-
Linet Masai
Mary Keitany
Linet Chepkirui
etc
Hard for me not to go with Tadese since he has the big time HM experience and is not currently ramped up for a marathon. Although his 10,000 PR, 26:37, was set in a race where he came in second to Micah Kogo's PR, he's beaten Makau already head to head twice- at Udine (by 3 seconds), and at Rio where he totally demolished him 59:56 to 1:01:54. But Kogo could be the new upstart, if Kitwara doesn't do it himself, since HE surpised Geb in March at The Hague.
Now know:
Samuel Wanjiru - 58:33
Patrick Makau - 58:52
Sammy Kitwara - 58:58
Zersenay Tadese - 58:59
Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich = 58:59
Wilson Kwambai Chebet - 59:15
Dieudonne Disi - 59:32 (I think he may be out)
Kiplimo Kimutai - 59:44
Micah Kogo - 26:35
Josphat Ndambiri - 26:57
Plus 7 other runners who have run under 59:50 have been contracted to run. Haven't heard about Deriba Merga, but you have to believe he is one of these?
Jeronimo Bravo, Tadese's trainer, has said that he believes Tadese can go sub-58. Plus I have read somewhere on a Spanish website that 1 Million Euro is up for a new World Best.

This is going to be one heck of a race.
The race is in Abu Dhabi, and not Dubai, correct?
Yes, Abu Dhabi, on the F1 Grand Prix circuit actually.
And add Tilahun Regassa to the mix. He is gearing up for the race after a new course record in the Great Ethiopian Run 10K (28:36).
I found this:
My Dutch is not very good but if I understand correctly, Tadese has pulled out of the race. However, Sileshi Shihine has entered the race. Can anyone confirm?
And please, please, please somebody tell me where I can watch the race live.
Google translator says:
World Zersenay Tadesse of Eritrea has, unfortunately for unknown reasons
withdrawn.
So for me that makes Geb-beater Kitwara a clear favorite.
"However, Olympic marathon champion Sammy Wanjiru will miss out on the race after he withdrew to enable him prepare for the London Marathon due in April.
Wanjiru is also the world half marathon record holder, with a time of 58 minutes 33 seconds he set in 2007. Eritrea’s world half-marathon champion Zersenay Tadese will head the men’s line-up."

Now what?
Even without Tadesse, Disi or Wanjiru, the field is still one capable of resulting in a low-58 winning time: Makau, Kipsang, Chebet, Kitwara, Regassa, Lel, Kimutai, Kogo, Ndambiri, Sihine ...
Is martin Lelel running? coz if he is the race dynamics will change very significantly.
