Its not as bad as the coach doing it, a la Woody Hayes.

Let's not pretend he was a coward here... he popped a dude who was talking shit while the dude was surrounded by his teammates... if anything, we should be on the boise players for not beating the life out of him, but otherwise, this all seemed to play out appropriately. That dude runs up and taunts him after he already beat him... he gets what he deserves by the other guy popping him in the face... the guy who popped him... if he had gotten beaten down immediately afterwards by the guys teammates, that would probably be what he deserved, but now it's going to get awkward and political.

Well, not as lame anyway. Old men should know better. It's worse in that Blount is an in shape athlete who laid that guy out. At least Woody Hayes (though he proved to be a stupid ass) didn't hurt the player he hit.
I do hope this is a troll post. Please be a troll!

No, he's a man. If he'd done what he did out on the street or in a bar, he'd be charged as an adult. That guy is dangerously out of control, send that thug back to the 'hood because he doesn't belong on a college campus.

Not defending what he did. It was bonehead and embarrassing. But this is a kid. Kids make mistakes. They should be punished and hopefully they will learn from it. I think because of their physical size and celebrity we forget that these are kids. Suspend him for some games but let him keep his scholarship and hope he learns something from it.

AMEN!!!
OMG, he is 23 years old. I just looked at his bio on GoDucks. Are you people really trying to claim he is just a kid?
This country is embarrassing, our "kids" remain kids until they are 30 years old.
Not acceptable by Blount, but pretty damn funny that Hout was shooting his mouth off and taunting Blount and surprise, Blount didn't walk away.
Emotions run high after a game like this and the Ducks got embarrassed during the game and then to get embarrassed by Hout when you are already feeling down. Hout got what he deserved and now Blount will too.
exactly - cant stand that kind of b.s.also, i hate coaches and athletics departments that enable this kind of behavior. he needs to be kicked to the curb.

I think he and President Obama need to have a beer together.
Thats a good one.

What I dont understand is why the Boise players would let there guy take a sucker bunch and not do anything about it. If it would have been USC or Florida they would have been all over Blount

He's a punk. Stop being PC. He needs his ass kicked, and he needs to be dropped from the team.
They were both punks.
The BS player should have at least gotten a shove. A punch was too far, but, in the real world he deserved it.
Most athletes wouldn't do it.
More importantly, Duck fan or not, it was a BORING ASSED GAME.
Just saw it on ESPN, Blount suspended for the rest of the season. At 23, this must be his 5th year. He's not even a very good back, given his performance last night. Looks like being dubbed "Maurice Clarett, Jr." is apt. Comparisons to Lawrence Phillips work, too. Possibly a future Raider.
story here....suspended for the season
Mo Clarett is a POOR comparison. While Mo might have held up people brandishing a weapon, he at no time ever, and I mean ever sucker punched someone in the face.
The NFL let Mo down by their archaic elitist rules leaving him in an unstructured environment that he was not able to handle at the age of nineteen. He could not overcome his sense of entitlement after seeing C.C. Sabathia and Lebron James gladly accepted in their professions to make millions when they were the same age.
Yeah, brandishing a weapon at someone to rob him is so much better. Clarett could've stayed at OSU, nobody forced him into the NFL. Oh, but that would've meant going to class and studying. His problems go back further than the point he tried to get into the NFL earlier than anyone else would be allowed to, they probably go back even further than when he signed his letter-of-intent with OSU.
Oregon did the right thing. Today they suspended him for the rest of his college career. At the same time, he gets to keep his scholarship. This gives him an opportunity to stay in school, get a degree, and go on with life. I do give the University of Oregon for taking this fast and decisive action because most other college programs would slap their star on the wrist with a couple game suspension and then go on. By the way, for the bashers out there...how many of the other 74 Oregon players punched out the harassing Boise State players. One bad egg doesn't spoil the rest -- especially if you do the right thing and get him off the team. End of thread.

I never said what Mo did was better. What he did was different. You are more than ignorant to think everyone should go to college to be able to excel at what they are best at. Baseball players have a choice. Basketball players had a choice (now they have that one and done sham that not only does nothing for the athlete, it gets most of the schools who take them in trouble). Football players (which most statistics show do the poorest in school) HAVE NO CHOICE. While very very very few kids could ever play in the nfl right out of high school or even after one year of college, Mo was possibly that player that could. The "system" let him down when he needed a "system" the most. It is time to change the system.
Fyi, I paid my way through college while working full time so I know how important an advanced education is but I also know not everyone is capable or has an interest in advancing their formal education. The list of successful people who never completed a college education is endless.
