It seems like he ought to run the Brussels 10k. Seems like a slamdunk that he would run the AR, sub-27 would be tough, but he easily has that kind form right now.
There is no 10k in Brussels this year.

Wow! As an Ethiopian, reading through these messages ... no wonder you people ('you' being Americans -- I'm assuming the majority of this board is American) do not produce great runners ... you're one of the most vindictive group of demoralizers I've ever seen.
You're absolutely right. There's a serious character deficit in this country. And the sickest part is that these little hairballs are presumptuous enough to think the rest of world actually wants to be like them.
Sad to see how badly a culture can deteriorate in just a couple of generations.
Our culture and character was great a generation or 3 ago? Man, it must suck for you now that women and black people can vote.

??!??
As a JUNIOR, Jim Ryun ran 1:44, 3:51, and 8:25.
And that was 43 years ago.
Also, Gerry Lindgren ran 1:56, 4:01, and 8:40 while still in HIGH SCHOOL 45 years ago.

Like Carlos Lopes, he could have run marathons later in his career.
So now Carlos Lopes is the rule and not the exception? Get with the times, pal.
Are there any sub 13min 5k guys who have not broken 4 in the mile? Is Ritz the only one?
I look forward to a similarly self-aggrandizing post by you when the Dow reaches early 2007 levels by 2016.

After years of taking crap here for saying he would eventually have the AR in the 5,000 (the one in the 10,000 is on borrowed time), the time is finally here. Told you so. Told you so. Told you so.
The naysayers (MANY of you) said he didn't have the speed to do it, that he wasn't as tough as Kennedy, and on and on. I knew better. Sorry to gloat just a tad, but I deserve to.
In all fairness, I did actually call for a 13:11 in this race as I figured we should give him a little time with Salazar before going for those records, but I'm not shocked he did it. I've said all along he has it in him to do it, and I still say his ceiling is right around 12:50; dangerously close to that now eh?
Are you joking? You never can tell on letsrun, but I think you're serious. Those are Ritz's PRs from his junior year of HS.

Awesome, that race was long overdue for Ritz. He's always had the talent and I'm glad to see it all finally came together. Stay away from the f***ing marathon. It is the gayest most shitty race ever. Honestly only people with no speed do it. Who cares about how fast you can run such an arbitrary distance. Hey Ryan Hall, look what you could be doing on the track, instead you are wasting you prime years getting 12th at the Olympics and running 2:10 marathon while getting your ass beat saying "I will medal in a couple years". Ritz got it right, all great distance runners need to stay away from the marathon until about age 32.
Just like Wanjiru did?
Or Abera.

(Ritz) is the best American high school cross country runner ever, save for Gerry Lindgren.
No. Jeff Nelson was better.
This pisses me off.
I am an idiot. I for one was agreeing with all the posters in the past concerning RITZ is just done. You know so injury prone always hurt can't get it done. He should just go to the marathon that is all he has left. I think RITZ just bitch slapped every running fan and runner in the country. It took him 12:56 to do it. I thought he was gonna catch Bekele. I bow to RITZ for all time now.
it is better to talk on white standard. for east african this rubish.

I believe newname meant HS junior and yesstiles correctly meant under-age-20 junior.

you are pathetic. there are always cynical losers like you who moan and groan about everything. talk to any immigrant that isn't a pathetic baby like you, such as my uneducated grandparents who came here and sent five kids to college. the USA is the greatest country in the history of the world, and likely always will be. That doesn't mean there aren't serious flaws with it, but it is a fact.
Ritz ran a beautiful race. It's so great to watch him start out nice and calmly in the back of the pack. no fighting for position when it doesn't matter. and then those last two laps! great stuff.
nearly brought tears to my eyes...incredible run
total man crush
Flags forgot to acknowledge the altitude tent part. It doesn't hurt. It's just another way to increase the body's capacity to produce red blood cells. But, the marathon training certainly helped too. IF the Dow reaches 2007 levels in nine years, in REAL terms, we'll still be stuck around current levels. Wonder if that will get acknowledged? And if the Dow is closer to March 2009 levels in 2016???
