This is a great article on Steve Spence. The guy was a stud and his daughter might become even more of a stud than him. He was a tough dude and I think the young guys could learn a few things from the way he and Steve Taylor prepared for the 1991 World Championships when he was 3rd and then his 1992 year (Olympic Trials Champ and 12th Olympic Games). Among other things the article talks about how he and Taylor trained while living in a very remote mountain cabin in West Virginia before the '92 Oly Marathon Trials.
Here's a great quote from the article:
"So we lived a hermits life in the mountains and trained our tails off. There was no TV in the place, no telephone. It was just a wood stove and hot water and basically what we did was RUN." -Steve Taylor from the September 2009 Running Times issue (Taylor was 6th in the '92 trials marathon while Spence won it)
