people forget, the great lasse viren was always off the radar during non-olympic years with various "injuries." alan is just doing what lasse did. smart move.

Except when Olympics came around Viren WON. How exactly does this apply to Webb, who has struggled in Olympics and WCs, often not even qualifying?

Doubt it...he's likely done after this.
If he does come back it will be a shade of his former self.
He's 26 and was the fastest runner in the world 2 years ago how does a sore tendon make him done? He still has the proven talent to run a 3:46 mile which is more than any other American can say except for arguably Lagat.
alan webb will be back in 2010.we wish him&his family the very best.el-g,-coe,-scott -others ran extremly fast 800/1500/mile times older.-american legend johnny gray ran 1:45@39-so i know alan will return,in 2010.-like we i told u in 2001,again-write on your wall-1:42-3:27-3:44-reach-for-the-stars--keep god in one hand&family in other-your dreams out in front&you,ll be fine.
good luck&godbless always

Next year Webb will be 27. At age 27 Spivey got a World Championship bronze in 1987. In the context of history there are quite a few US milers who have a better international record than Webb. However, as a time trail runner Webb has few equals.
Webb will be back in 2010. He may have lost a little of the fire but he certainly did not lose the desire. He wants the world record in the mile. And you know what he can get it. He knows he can and some of us out here know he can. Charge the batteries baby (yeah that's right, I said "baby" again) pick up your own gauntlet again and throw it down at your feet, the challenge is yours for the taking.
Webb - 3:42.7 mile - June/July 2011.
What you gonna do when he accomplishes this? Call him a time-trialer? OR the worlds greatest miler, EVER!

It's not going to happen.
I would not be surprised if Webb eventually ran a 3:45 mile and still does not get a WC or Olympic medal.
Hopefully, Lamong will give the US another 3:50 miler.
Ummm...Alan Webb is the person who holds the American record in the mile?!? He's not slow! HE'S NOT SLOW AT ALL!!! WAIT WHAT????????????????????????????????????????
But Alan Webb is NOT slow? WHAT????????????????????
This thread is so wackadoocrazy!!!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
