The diet looks good, especially the big salads.
I wonder if he ate that way when he ran the marathons.

No. In fact he mentions that he ate like sh*t when he was a competitive athlete. Typical for that time.
I doubt that he's getting enough energy for running by eating lettuce and fish. It sounds like a bodybuilder's type of diet where they don't move around very much, but not good for running.

you can get enough carbs from fruit and sweet potatoes. No problem.
a 2:16 Marathon for open men is about 90% AG. According to
http://www.runraceresults.com/AgeGrade.htm
, 90-99% is world class level while 80-89% is national class level.
So yes, he was certainly national class if not world class.

That's not what he eats though.
What are the chances that Bad Wigins or xfit guy (or both - they're probably the same person) is actually this Sisson character himself? Either that or some idiot out to promote this primal garbage for $$$ incentive.
I ran against Mark Sisson many times, while he was at Williams and later in marathons. He didn't run the 1980 US Olympic marathon trials, but I'm sure he qualified. Mark was a great runner and I don't think I ever beat him. My best marathon was 2:21:20.
Anyone know if Emily Sisson is his daughter?
She is not.
I came across this result whilst perusing an old Runner magazine:
Westchester Half-Marathon
White Plains NY
June 18, 1978
1. Bjorklund 1:04:49
2. Slack
3. Cabell
4. Stewart
5. Anastasio
6. Heck
7. Mark Sisson (25) 1:09:15

20 years ago when he was poor, and only good at running, he probably went to a tony robbins seminar...and the rest is history.
The ideas that he sells are generally good ones. I'm grateful that he sold me his book.

I initially thought this thread was about Emily Sisson's dad who ran for the Badgers in the 80's, but then I clicked the link. I'm not sure if Emily's Dad had a post collegiate career, but he would have been better than a Williams runner from that time period.
+1. I thought the same thing.
Mark was one of my roommates in Sharon Heights, CA (near Stanford) in the late 1970s. He not only worked the hilly local roads to the tune of 12-24 mile loops almost daily, he maintained admirable real estate related side-businesses. He was indeed a very successful competitor and fit right in with the high-end Bay Area track athletes of the day ranging from Jenner to Oldfield to Larrieu. Frankly, Mark's biggest fault was his taste in clothes. He liked big, bold plaid (he was often referred to as "the plaid man" when not present).
The Mark Sisson that ran on those Wisconsin teams in the early 80's would be younger than the Cali Mark Sisson. Emily Sisson started out at Wisco I thought for sure dad was Mark Sisson for sure.
