Actually, I've been to some extraorinary weddings - and enjoyed them. But they have mostly been hosted by VERY WEALTHY parents, who think nothing of spending $500K on an affair. And for those folks, the affair is more about impressiing their friends and business associates than their lovey children who are taking vows. However, if you are posting on Letsrun about how much you should spend, money is obviously an issue and a wedding with 150 guests ... not worth it.
so it takes an $500k affair to impress you?
next, there are plenty of people who post here who can spend $20-30k to entertain 200 people. I did. No debt.
Like someone said, there are cultural circumstances to consider. If we didn't invite almost all of our family, it would have been insulting to them. We also have a lot of friends that we wanted to include.
Everyone had fun. The dance floor was full, and we ran right down to our limit on the open bar.
But again, it sounds like you wouldn't have had fun like everyone else since you're a bitter old man.
