I don't see the 3K record going down anytime too soon. I'm not sure the 1:44.86 today tells us anything we wouldn't already expect based on his 1500m either
the 800 of 1'44.8 coudn't really be predicted off 3'29 with any great certainty ( a 3'29 guy in coe has gone 1'41.7, so we know an upper limit, but not how slow for 800 you coud possibly be !? ) & it definitely does tell us something new
komen never ran a 800 nor did geb, but latter did run a TT in ?'99 prior to WC in ~ ?1'47
i'd expect komen's to also have been similar, maybe best for komen/geb at high-1'45/low-1'46
choge is at least 1s faster than them over 800m, which is a helluva lot of firepower to bring to "intermediate" distances of 1500/3k - destroy the 3'29/3'31i they ran & run the 7'20 close
a prima facie case is choge v morceli over 800/5k :
1'44.86 v 1'44.79 & 12'53 v 13'03
( obviously morceli was likely worth much quicker )
morceli ran 3'27 & 7'25 ( i believe that was off a jog for 2k of 5'01+ )
so at least choge shoud go 3'28 & 7'25 just off that
