Anyone ever had this injury??

So i've been increasing my mileage this summer and a month or so ago ran into some ankle soreness. Now my ankle is giving me more problems again, but this time its' a little different. The pain has spread to the achilles area, and I feel pain in my arch in the mornings. The pain seems to go away mostly during the day, and as I do various achilles stretches.

I've never had any chronic injury problems before and have already taken much time off this summer. Does anyone have ideas as to what the hell I have?? The beginnings of plantar fascitis? thanks.

Could be plantar or achilles tendonitis. The tendon at the base of your heel is getting stretched due to a flattened arch. Rest and ice-baths: take a styrofoam or picnic cup and freeze water in it. Then massage your achilles with it. Also try foot.com

Just stretch a lot, both achilles and calf (there is a difference) and get through it. With stretching it should go away, but it make take 2 to 3 weeks, although if you're careful you can keep running. Icing with help short term, but its all in the stretching.

I agree. Stretching has done me wonders when little hot spots begin emerging.

I used to tape the bottom of my foot with a few pieces of sports tape to keep the arch in place which helped after a couple of weeks.

Stretching the achillies: Lower your ankle off a step for a while after each run and after warm ups. Also, sitting down: lift a foot and do your ABC's once or twice. Switch and do the other foot. Stretch and strengthen!

With time, the hot spots will go away. Just be mindful of your training and don't overdo it until the foot/ankle feel better!

If you have access to a good therapist or podiatrist, why not check it out there? You need someone to look at the entire foot/arch/ankle/Achilles complex to indentify what, if any, structural or functional factor(s) to be the causative agent. You're experiencing Achilles soreness, yet the root cause could be in the ankle or in the arch. If you don't have access to a good therapist, try taping yourself running, focusing on the foot and lower leg mechanics. Play the tape in slow motion and you may be able to see an aberration in the way the foot/lower leg moves that will tip off or implicate where in the foot/ankle/Achilles chain that the cause of the problem originates.

Thanks to all that posted advice. I think the stretching/strengthening is starting to take care of the pain.

-This message board is by far the best. Nowhere else can i post a problem and seek advice on my running, and get atleast a few intelligent responses by the next day.
