Unreal to say the least!!
Unreal to say the least!!
That's incredible. What a time for a freshman. 9:05 split. Indoors. Yikes.
holy $hit. incredible. freshman. wow
Equal to 8:48 2 mile.
It was great to see the frosh break the old man from Ethiopia's record. The kid is 16 which is bit old fro a frosh, but at least he is honest about his age.
who cares 15 or 16 wrote:

maybe for a college guy, but I remember coming through around 8:50 (3200) and dying to 14:10.
for a young high school kid this is a LOT of strength, and indoors!
don't forget Ryan Gregson just ran 3:37, his 5K before the race was around 14:10 and after it he ran 13:56.
Gregson also just ran 7:57 in cool conditions and winning by a long shot today.
Gregson is more of a mid distance guy, but a 15-16 yr old shouldn't have a ton of strength, and as a freshman VERY little experience.
I wish people would quit calling him a Freshman. He is 16.
That being said how many 16 year olds set National records while lapping everybody in the field? Fantastic time, great runner.
Most HS sophomores turn 16 between the start and end of the school year. Hall was 18 at the beginning of his senior year.

So what should we call him?
experience wise, what is he?
"i graduated at 17... This kid is as old as I was when I was a junior.
And I was by no means "very" young for my grade... maybe SLIGHTLY on the younger side but not extremely."
-so that means you ran 14.17 as a hs junior then, right? shut up, dude. appreciate a spectacular performance for what it is. great run if he was even a senior.
17 and how many days?
By the end of my senior year, most of us had turned 18. Some had birthdays over the summer, some were young and could have started school a year later but didn't.
Ryan Hall turned 18 in October of his senior year.
Ritzenhein turned 18 in December of his senior year, and Webb was 18 in January of his senior year. That's all very standard.
This kid's age is right in step with the sophomores in this country, so judge him against the sophomore records if you like.
The average freshman in High School is 15. He is a little bit older than that, but so what?
What is the age group record for 16 year olds in the US?
Pretty impressive. The two mile should be a fun race!
Finish video is up, interview on the way.
damn, guy already looks like a duck! keeps it up he may be.
So let's call him a sophomore then. Either way, who cares? It's a fantastic time for that age. Most of us have a lifetime, outdoor PR slower than that.
He beat the new national hs indoor 5k record (haile had just run 14:22, breaking Hudson's 14:29 record), so no need to worry about the class record. And the age thing is simple. Typically freshmen will turn 15 in the spring or summer. He's 16 and 2 months. So, he's a year older, typical sophomore age. I think that he would destroy the sophomore class 2 mile record outdoors right now. And clearly if this is worth high 8:40s 2M, then he has a shot to re-write the high school and junior (under 20) record book when he runs track junior and senior years, as reported by dyestat.

"Sir"
Here's the kicker, Lukas is not going to run HS Track, with a 5k time like that and with the mile and 3k that he ran at an indoor meet at Arkansas earlier this year, I just hope that he stays healthy! He was injured towards the end of Cross Country season and didn't run in and "Win" the Illinois 3A CC State meet.
Gregson also just ran 7:57 in cool conditions . . .
Are cool conditions good or bad? Did he warm up?
