See my just-posted comment under " The Death of Indoor USATF." Compare today's pathetic indoor Nationals to the old AAU meet up into the 60's. Night and Day.

Millrose and Fresno State was empty too. Tyson was like USA Indoors and only had 2/3rds. Only BIG sold out. They ruined BIG and Tyson by showing it tape delayed after we already had seen the results and hundreds of press pictures blasted over the internet. Overall I think people just want to take it easy in the winter months. The PAC-10 has optional indoor participation.
You really think the AAU days were that good? One reason high school competition is good is because the top guys will go out every time because they're NOT concerned with money.
If it's a business, then you make choices to maximize your return.
I think that a good number of those who would go to the USATF meet were at other meet in Boston. There was the All-States meet Friday night, and HEPS and New England's on Saturday and Sunday. That is a lot of track - a lot of athletes, coaches, family, etc.
They were selling tickets off to the side, but you didn't have to buy them as they weren't checking people's tickets as they entered. I walked in and out a few times and moved my seat and nobody asked to see my ticket. (It wasn't like this at the Reebok Games.)
well, that is even more concerning...the meet had about as much prestige as a dual meet in high school.
Careful before you pine for the "good old days" of the AAU. You know not of what you speak.

I certainly concur with what you are saying, but all I am talking about is a straight-up comparison between the old AAU Indoor Champs and todays USATF Indoor Champs. No comparison.
there will be no empty seats at NIN March 13-15..... put out a good product and people will come... that will be a track meet!!
How many of those seats will go to people who have zero direct affiliation (family, friends, teammates, coaches) with the athletes competing?
that's the story of t&f. the stands are full of family and people all claiming to be coaches. i've never met so many coaches as in t&f compared to other sport. once the kid is done with the t&f, the family goes back to attending mlb, nfl, and nba games, never to be seen again.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
