What about Andy Mclary? Isn't he still at Arkansas. He clearly seems to be the class of the field.

granted Wheating doesn't run-But then again its not an Olympic year so I don't see why Wheating wouldn't run? I mean he doesn't even really need to be at the top of his game to compete with the likes of Bolas, Bumbi, or Acosta. Willis always competed indoors and still was competitive in the summer.

You mean he McCleary seems to be the class of the field.
When is the last time anybody gave a f*** about Jeff See?
Jeff See is just another solid guy in the currently incredibly stacked NCAA. Some guys might be a little more proven - such as wheating (who'll run the 800 anyway) - but See has the tools and just as much a shot as anyone else who will make the final.
..Lot of haters out there for a guy who's pretty easy to root for
Jeff's junior year he had mono bad and did not perform at the same level. His senior year he ran 4:03 to win NON, won his state CC, 800, and 1600 final. He also ran a 1:48 split in the 4x800 to take his team from 9th to second (I was in the race and have it on a videotape if people are going to call BS on the 1:48). Therefore I don't think he was overrated in high school.
Did you see the NCAA 1500m final? He went from 11th to 5th in the home straight. He was boxed in bad the entire race. When he race 3:40 this spring it was at the Jesse Owens Classic in May. I was in a different heat and ran a few minutes before him, and the conditions were not pr condusive at all. The wind was blowing and even though it was rabbited for awhile, See was in a league of his own that race. Second place ran 3:45. His efforts at the Trials have already been discussed.
Final note: Who the hell said there are a couple dozen guys who ran 4:25 in high school that run 3:40's now?? They are nuts. I am too lazy to do it, but I doubt there are more than 24 people on the NCAA list last year that ran 3:40 or better. I will also bet that all of them ran faster than 4:25 in high school.
Bottomline: He is not overrated
watch out for him in 2012...
I think Andrew Wheating is a bit disadvantaged at the mile indoors because he is too tall. His larger frame makes it difficult to really hang tight in those turns and to shift gears to the outside. His kick takes a bit of a wind-up, meaning, he needs about 100 meters of straight tartan to really get it going.
I'm now going to go masterbate after talking about andrew wheatings large body (i'm a female).

I agree with your point that he is not overrated and that he clearly has potential, but the guy didn't say 24 people on the NCAA list last year, he just just said 24 people. Also, he didn't say that they only ran 4:25 in high school - he specified as sophomores.
See had 2nd fastest 1500 American collegiate time behind McClary who ran it after NC's. I know his coach was an Olympic steeplechaser, but See should not steeple (too big).
There was no mention of See doing the steeple, but it was exciting to hear him talk about training with Myers and Olinger.
Hopefully if he wins the indoor 1500, he can hold on to the lead for the extra 109.344 meters to win the mile.

I don't know if I'd consider 5th place in the 1500 behind Manzano a "background character."
you know what I mean, he wasn't like a manzano, lomong, or even russell brown, contending for big wins, just one of a bunch of 3:40-41 guys

Only 11.
Your 2008 NCAA list:
1 Leonel Manzano SR Texas * 3:36.24 MW 05-18 (4:07.73 HS)
2 Stephen Pifer SR Colorado * 3:38.09 MW 05-18 (4:06.50 HS)
3 Andrew Wheating SO Oregon 3:38.60 W 05-09 (3:54.28 HS)
4 Andrew Bumbalough SO Georgetown 3:40.22 E 04-18 (4:06.53 HS)
5 Robert Curtis SR Villanova 3:40.25 E 05-13 (4:07.06 HS)
6 Andrew Acosta SO Oregon 3:40.52 W 05-04 (4:03.79 HS)
7 Matt Debole SR Georgetown 3:40.73 E 04-18
8 Lee Emanuel JR New Mexico 3:40.77 MW 04-12 (ran HS in England)
9 Jeff See JR Ohio State 3:40.86 ME 05-03 (4:04.83 HS)
10 David Torrence SR California * 3:40.90 W 04-26 (4:11.5 HS)
11 Russell Brown SR Stanford 3:40.96 W 05-04 (800 specialist in HS)
You are forgetting a 3:36 guy coming back that ran a blazing 4:17 pr in high school. I would think he is pretty good.. seeing as he was the only collegian to make the olympic trials finals in the 1500

Is that a full mile?
YOU GUYS ARE FORGETTING THIS NAME:
DORIAN URLEY!
ARKANSAS NOW, FORMER NORTHER IOWA
I was going to mention him, but I was hesitant because he may very well have ran that race more conservatively than everyone else who was going for the win. Just because he came in 2nd or whatever does not make him better than all those he beat. Hes just as much a contender as any of the other 3:40 guys but I don't know if he is worthy of capitalization.
man i was just about post dorian. indoors is wide open this year. i would say the favorites in no order are:
dorian ulrey
aj acosta
garrett heath
elkanah kibet (i think he is 1500m runner)
kyle perry
jake morse & kyle miller (not sure if either texas guy has eligibility)
andrew wheating
