Not a lot of the top Illinois runners ran. Withrow was only top 5 guy to run. Napier had a shot looking how race went but he had foot surgery after state, Macnamara, McCann, Sagrius were all top 5 and didn't run for some reason. 2 other top 10 guys didn't run one being John Popejoy who has beaten his brother all year. His brother ended up taking 10th place in midwest after 17th in the state meet. The 12th best finisher was the 80th AA finisher at state. Not many people ran from Illinois. Also it looks McCann and Macnamara gave Withrow more competition then Deak and Heath did.
Colorado ruled Illinois and so did Michigan!! The 2nd best runner in Illinois was at the meet watching so why wasn't he running. Colorado finally got the FL thing right this year. Deak and Harkrader were just chillin and will bust a move in Balboa Park. Stanford better watch out for a young Colorado team next year with Deak as stud in training at the #2 spot in Boulder. Deakamania will run wild in San Diego!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michigan's "B" team even beat Illinois. Most Illinois runners don't run Footlocker because most Illinois runners outside of the top 2 or 3 get blown away. A larger percentage of top runners from Illinois run than do other states anyway. Most runners from Illinois live within less than an hour from Kenosha. There is no excuse. This happens year after year. The only time Illinois has won anything is when the Torres brothers have been around.

Ryan, go back to Dyestat where you can talk about yourself all you want. Botom line is you got beat at states and at Footlocker. Should have stayed in Florida, you would have won the South region.
PS Eat some food. Your body looks like that of a 10-yer-old girl.
Scooby, do you have any idea what you are talking about? You act like there is some plot by IL runners to hurt FL. Truth is, the state meet in IL was in early November, the top runners are by that time pretty spent from a hard season, and they need to rest. I can speak from experience that York coach Joe Newton really does not want his top runners at FL (Sage only ran as a senior, and then only so a number of coaches could watch him), because he wants them to take time off so that they can be ready for track, and after 1000 mile summers and lots more running during season, they need the break. And of course, IL has done well without the Torres bros. Sage was 4th in the regional before taking second at the main race. Pifer did great. Withrow won just now. Go back and look over the years. With only 8 people moving on, I would guess that just about everyone gets blown away.
What a childish post. Jesus.
Youve got to be kidding. Not only is the guy who won by 100 METERS!!!!(5 seconds slower than solinsky last year) from Illinois but the 10th place overall finisher was the ~15th finisher at state. If im not mistaken, Withrow was the only top 10 guy who raced. Will Mccann lost to Withrow by about 8 seconds at state. Im not saying he would have taken 2ns but I am saying he would have been within 30 seconds which put him in the same pack as Christian Wagner. The 1st, 3rd and 5th finishers in the boys frosh soph race were all from Illinois. This race validated the times from state and Withrow's ability relative to sage and torres.
In 25 years of FL competition the only team competition that Illinois has won was when the Torres twins were juniors and seniors. Illinois has never won the team competition without the Torres twins.
Withrow ran an excellent race and it is highly unlikely if any of the other Illinois runners would have come as close to him like they did on the FLAT state meet course. Bottom line is that they didn't race so they don't count for anything. Dan Curran of Naperville North finished 6th at state and couldn't crack the top 100 at FL. Popejoy was sick at state and has now recovered with a nice performance.
that's 23 out of 25 state competitions lost by Illinois. Not indicative of a top state, especially when it ranks #1 in the region with population AND kenosha is within walking distance, basically a chicago competitors home course.
Illinois flopped AGAIN (23 out of 25 times) so suck it up.

Congratulations to Ryan Deak! Every high school running thread seems to turn into a Deak thread regardless of the subject line. It seems everyone has their eye on Deak, either rooting for him, or shooting for him. I guess Deak is the most respected and feared runner in high school.
Ya second place draws lots of attention and fear

Good point! Deak didn't even win, yet everyone is talking about him. Odd isn't it? ...I think it says volumes about the kid and how well respected, as a runner, he is.
hey genious look at the guys name they refering too it has nothing to do with talking about how good deak is, he got his ass handed to him from a guy from a superior state

Run: I think you meant to address 'Da Deakmeister' and 'Bye bye Ryan' since they are the ones who _changed_ the subject to Deak. Nevertheless, I agree with you... why does everyone wants to talk about Deak regardless of the subject? I guess he is the one everyone measuring up to.
Also, I see you are very proud of your home state, Illinois. I'm from Illinois too... but it looks like Colorado handed it to Illinois this year. Maybe next year.
I usually don't care about spelling and grammer errors since this is an informal forum, but if you are going to jokingly call someone a "genius"....it would be
prudent to spell that word correctly.
Scooby- in all seriousness, I think you are looking at this wrong. I don't think you can measure the success or lack of success of IL runners by their performance at FL. Obviously, over the years IL has put out some of the best runners in America: Spivey, Virgin, Sage, Torres, Broe, even Bakken, Merrick, and on an on. Some of these guys never ran FL but were the best in the world. There can be many reasons why runners do not run the FL or do not run it well. So the, what is the point, beyond whether or not IL runners do well? In the long run, what does it matter? Sage did not beat Ritz, but he has had a superb college career. Sage, Torres and Ritz have all been national champs. All 3 may make it to the Olys. I am not sure it matters how well they do at this one meet. That is not the measure of the state.
How respected he is? I was in the finish line area as a volunteer, and he is one of the most arrogant, conceited person I know. He doesn't listen to officials and thinks he can walk all over people and still get what he wants. All I can say is he should act more like the guy who finished 4th-happy to make it and hungry for more.
Many states have differing views/participation in post season racing. I will say from experiance (I was a an IL high school and college runner, and now live in IN) that IL, as a whole, does not place nearly as much value on FL as does IN. To place high at the state meet in IL a team must peak correctly due to the depth of talent(not true in IN). Many of those top IL runners are "recovering" during FL.
From experiencing both IN and IL highschool distance running I can say without a doubt that there is NO comparison between the two. IL is WAY deeper than IN. Sure there are exeptions, but overall IL crushes IN. I can not comment directly on the other midwest states, but I know these two.

I WAS THERE: I don't know Deak personally, I have never met him. For all I know, he could be arrogant as you say. However, I'm not speaking about his character, I'm speaking about the volume of posts from people on this message board about Deak, even when the subject is not Deak. It seems he is respected (not necessarily liked) for his talent in the sense that posters recognize him so frequently. I also don't believe most of the posters here know Deak personally, so I draw the conclusion they are motivated by jealousy.
I will agree that deak needs to eat. Hell i think that katelyn kaltenbach could beat him in an arm wrestling contest. He is pretty quick for being built like a 10 year old girl though, I hope he liked the view at FL, because all he is going to see is Withrow's back at nationals. The kid trained through state and still ran a 14:14 3-mile, then dusted the hyped up deak at regionals, he will be ready to roll at Nats, and deak should be the scared one.

If you could pay attention, Dan Curran wasn't 6th at state, rather Brad Topol from Lyons was 6th. Get your facts straight you dumb f***.
