Colorado also got beaten soundly by every boys and girls high school XC squad in the country. Of course, they all ran on 5K courses and averaged well under 25-minutes a team-member per race.
I bet they also lost to many of the top DIII programs when they ran nationals at the "legit" course at Oshkosh... I think it was 1999, the year dave davis won.
My coach went out and measured the Oshkosh course after the race, both with a tape measure and a wheel ( he actually did it two days after the race, driving six hours one way, but that is another story.) He tape measured 7860 meters and wheeled 7899 meters. He also recalculated what all the times should have been, based on a shorter course and appropriate slowdown factors. Most people were 20-25 seconds slower.
I think the perfect NCAA 8k course is one where the winner is the only one to break 25, but I think I am in the minority of those in opposition to fall "track" (short, flat courses.)
Again... cross is cross. A course is a course. We love the standardization of track because 100m is a 100m (usually) anywhere in the world.
The point is EO is better than CU...
